If it's crap... We'll tell you

Universal Pictures has given then nod to Gore Verbinski produce a remake of the 2006 Korean thriller The Host. The film, originally titled "Gwoemul," did record-breaking business in its theatrical run in South Korea.

The film will feature the directing debut of commercials director Fredrik Bond. Smart People writer Mark Poirier will pen the script.

Story follows a town terrorized by a giant mutant squidlike creature hatched by toxins that flow into a nearby river from a military base. When the creature grabs a little girl, her dysfunctional family must band together to rescue her.

Bond has directed campaigns for Nike, Adidas and Levi's. He and Verbinski had been looking for a project to do together, and Bond said he embraced the opportunity to mix a larger-than-life monster with a heartfelt family drama.

"It processes a few genres together, and visually it feels close to the stuff I've made over the last few years in commercials, the tonality of humor and the scale," Bond said.

has anybody here seen the original? to do record breaking business definitely gives them points on the Anticipation Scale, and Smart People was reviewed well. and i find Nike commercials to be adequate. So this isn't necessarily doomed

necessarily

It only took our U.S. a year to remake [Rec.]
but why would they do this to the host????
part of the message of the movie was that Americans were polluting their waters without consent!
I think that might mean that they'll tweak the plot to make it more appealing.
Oh, and the monster will be Clover, haha.

Why remake a movie that came out like 2-3 years ago...

If Gore was actually directing this, I'd be cool, but it looks like he's only producing it.

The story is hardly anymore different than Cloverfield. ._.
They just mixed around a few things.
But this film was before Cloverfield, so maybe we copied the idea from them..
Hmm...
