If it's crap... We'll tell you

Carlyle, when you said "You can't kiss in a Bollywood movie..." That had me going, because its untrue anymore, thats like me saying "You can't have an intelligent black man in a Hollywood movie." Or "You can't have a good Japanese character". It used to be true but now its just not.

Bollywood movies have grown tremendously ever since Laagan was nominated for best foreign film.

I've decided to take it upon myself to give you a list of Bollywood movies that are actually pretty sick and deserve recognition.

So here are my favorite bollywood movies.

Saawariya, English-Beloved.

Lets get this straight of all the movies on this list this is the worst, in fact it sucks. It doesn't have intelligence good acting or good music. But like my friend always says when talking about girls, "Not much upstairs but oh my god what a staircase." This movie is beautiful the cinematography is brilliant. And the sets, and the lighting and the blueness its wonderful which is why this film gets my approval.

Lage Raho Munna Bhai

English-Stay with me Ghandi.

The central protagonist, Munna Bhai , interacts with an image of Mahatma Gandhi and learns the principles of Gandhian philosophy in Lage Raho Munna Bhai. He is helped by his sidekick, Circuit . They both speak in Bambaiya Hindi, a dialect specific to the Indian city of Mumbai.
At the beginning of the story, Munna is in love with the voice of Janhavi , a radio jockey. He devises a plan to meet her when she announces a contest featuring the life and beliefs of Mahatma Gandhi set for 2 October—Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday celebrating the birth of Gandhi. Circuit helps Munna win the contest by kidnapping and then bribing a group of professors. As the winner, Munna is granted an interview with Janhavi where he lies to her, presenting himself as a professor of history and a Gandhi specialist. Janhavi subsequently asks Munna to present a lecture on Gandhi to a community of senior citizens who live in her home, called the "Second Innings House". In order to prepare for this event, Munna engages in a period of intense study, wherein he studies for 3 days and 3 nights without sleep, of the life and works of Gandhi.
It is during this period that the image of Mahatma Gandhi (portrayed by Dilip Prabhavalkar), referred to by his nickname, "Bapu" ("father"), appears and offers help and advice to Munna. He encourages Munna to tell the truth about himself to Janhavi, but does not succeed for much of the film. Gandhi continues to appear each time Munna sings Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram (a song often sung in Gandhi's memory). With Gandhi's help, Munna succeeds in impressing Jahnavi and cultivates a new lifestyle based upon Gandhism (particularly non-violence and truth), which transforms everyone with whom he comes into contact. Indeed, Munna starts to co-host a radio-show with Janhavi and Gandhi's image, guiding his audience to use Gandhigiri to solve everyday problems.

Its actually quite good, and funny. I really liked this movie, I don't recommend it to people looking for a serious movie.

Omkara

No direct English translation.

God what a movie, its based of Othello, and seriously it is good, its brutal, and amazing the acting is superb. I recommend it to anyone who loved serious dramas. Theres nothing I can say about this movie that wouldn't be a spoiler but you really should check it out.

Jab We Met
English When we Met.

Aditya Kashyap (Shahid Kapoor), a demoralized industrialist, gets even more depressed after attending the marriage of the girl he loves to another. Feeling ashamed to face the world, he walks out of the marriage gathering and boards a train in the night. While on board, he meets Geet Dhillon (Kareena Kapoor), a beautiful, talkative girl who is leaving Mumbai to go to her hometown - Bhatinda (Punjab).
Initially, Aditya finds Geet to be very irritating and every meeting becomes mental torture for him. She discloses big plans to him of eloping with her boyfriend Anshuman (Tarun Arora) as she fears resentment from her parents. Geet irritates Aditya to the point of getting him to leave the train. As she tries to get him back on the train, she ends up missing it and the two find themselves stranded on a desolate station with no luggage or money. Geet confronts Aditya and tells him that he is now responsible for getting her safely to her house in Punjab. Both of them begin an idyllic journey through the exuberant North Indian heartland, and make their way through buses, taxis and camel-carts to reach her house. Aditya, through spending so much time with Geet, begins to feel good about life again.

I liked this movie the music was good, as was the acting and the plot. Its a more urbanized and modernized Hindi romance a must see for foreign language film fans.

This is our greatest movie of all time, Honestly words don't describe it.

The movies are a "coming of age" narrative in the vein of a bildungsroman, describing the childhood, education and early maturity of a young Bengali in the early part of the 20th century. The first movie is about Apu's early experiences in rural Bengal, as the son of a poor but high caste family. His father Harihar, a Brahmin, has difficulty in supporting his family. After the death of Apu's sister, Durga, the family move to the holy city of Benares, but their finances are still precarious. After his father dies there, Apu and his mother Sarbajaya come back to a village in Bengal. Despite incessant poverty, Apu manages to get formal schooling and turns out to be a brilliant student. The growing Apu comes into conflict with his mother. Later, when his mother dies too, he has to learn to live alone. Attempting to become a writer, he accidentally finds himself pressured to marry a girl who has rejected her mentally ill bridegroom. Their blossoming marriage ends in her death in childbirth, after which the despairing Apu abandons his child, but eventually returns to accept his responsibilities.

Haven't seen a Bollywood film in years. I am, however, looking forward to this one. Looks silly and entertaining.

No love for Dil Se...a movie that Spike Lee stole the song "chaiyya chaiyya" and put in Inside Man.
