Golden Globes Analysis and Predictions! Golden Globes: January 17, 2010 @ 8pm EST. on NBC

*I apologize for any spelling or grammer mistakes*

I have to admit, awards season is of my most favorite times of the year. Its nailbiting, beautiful and appreciative all at the same time. Awards season is a time of observance and time a time of beauty. It is a time where one can truly appreciate various forms of filmmaking that are showcased at many prestigious events across the world. One of the most important ceremonies that awards filmmakers and actors/actresses for their work is that of the Golden Globes. The Golden Globes set the stage for the Academy Awards in the fact that most of the Golden Globe nominations are almost always identical to that of the Academy Awards' nominations. The Golden Globes ceremony is the first big televised awards event during the season, and it should get m ore credit that it recieves. The Golden Globes are the main foundation of the awards season, next to the Academy Awards and should be treated with just as much professionalism as such. So, without further adieu, my predictions and analysis for the 2010 Golden Globes are below. Enjoy! =)

*Note* I will only be making predictions for the FILM nominations. I'm not a big T.V. guy

Best motion picture-Drama
Avatar
The Hurt Locker
Inglorious Basterds
Precious
Up in the Air

Who will win: Up in the Air- Jason Reitman's beauty of a film will win the top prize. Ever since its release, it has amounted to huge critical acclaim and praise. The film itself is oozing with outstanding performances and a flourishing story that is intelligent and beautiful in its own way. Who should win: Inglorious Basterds- Inglorious Basterds is such an amazing piece of work. Tarantino's killer story and dialouge along with amazing performances makes this film arguably the best of the year. Everything is executed so well, that the film becomes such a wonderful delight to watch. It is so beautifully directed and written that it becomes one of the most entertaining films to watch.

Best performance by an actress in a motion picture- Drama
Emily Blunt- The Young Victoria
Sandra Bullock- The Blind Side
Helen Mirren- The Last Station
Carey Mulligan- An Education
Gabourey Sidibe- Precious

Who will win: Sandra Bullock- Sandra Bullock will take home this award. We never really get to see Sandra Bullock take on a serious role, a good one at that. Many of the voters will feel the need to award her not only for her great performance in the movie, but as an accolade for her work in the film industry over the last decade. Although she was not the best in this category, she will rightfully claim her prize, which is well desereved by all means. Who should win: Gabourey Sidibe- In what was the most heartwrenching performance of the year, Sidibe's role as an oibese and illeterate teenager was pitch perfect. She made the audience fell the outcast child's pain and suffering through many powerful scenes and dialogue that was spot on. Sidibe really makes you believe that the immense pain that Precious is going through is real and heartbreaking. She makes you connect with the character on an emotional level that is so powerful, it may leave you in tears.

Best performance by an actor in a motion picture- Drama
Jeff Bridges- Crazy Heart
George Clooney- Up in the Air
Colin Firth- A Single Man
Morgan Freeman- Invictus
Toby Maguire- Brothers

Who will win: George Clooney- George Clooney's stellar performance as Ryan Bingham will win theis award for him. Clooney develops his character extremely well to the point were the auudience can get emotionally involved into the film. When Clooney nails his performances, he REALLY nails his performances. This is one of but many examples in which Clooney can build up characterization so well, that everybody will love him in the end. Who should win: George Clooney- Clooney gives the best performance in this group. Although Morgan Freeman's outstanding portrayl of Nelson Mandela was one of the most powerful performances of the year, Clooney's is ultimatley better. Clooney's performance really gives you the complete analysis of the character. He shows you his character's no personal life, douche baggy style, as well as the character's more vulnerable side. Because of Clooney's above and beyond way of developing his character for Up in the Air, he should and will win.

Best motion picture- musical or comedy
(500) Days of Summer
The Hangover
It's Complicated
Julie & Julia
Nine

Who will win: Nine- Nine will win this award. Even though it is not the best film of the year, it is the best directed and best produced of this bunch. Many great performances such as Daniel Day-Lewis and Penelope Cruz make this film. Its upbeat, sexy and smooth style as well as its large musical productions make this film an easy pick to win this category. Who should win: The Hangover- The Hangover was by far the funniest movie of the year. Its clever script and great ensemble made the film superb and entertaining. The chemistry between cast members was phenomenal and every scene was acted and executed so brilliantly, that you can't help but laugh at nearly every scenario that plays out. The humor is vulgar and outstandingly clever, only to be complimented by a perfect ensemble for the humourous situations.

Best performance by an actress in a motion picture- musical or comedy
Sandra Bullock- The Proposal
Marion Cotillard- Nine
Julia Roberts- Duplicity
Meryl Streep- It's Complicated
Meryl Streep- Julie & Julia

Who will win: Meryl Streep (Julie & Julia)- Meryl Streep's performance as Julia Child will win her this award. Streep's pitch-perfect performance is by far the strongest of this group, and it would be a shock if she would not recieve the prize. Streep nails her role and the persona of her character every second she is on screen. Streep's performance in this film is arguably one of her best of her career. Who should win: Meryl Streep- Meryl Streep fully deserves this prize for her outstanding performance. There is no doubt that she will add to what is an already decorated career.

Best performance by an actor in a motion picture- musical or comedy
Matt Damon- The Informant
Daniel Day-Lewis- Nine
Robert Downey Jr.- Sherlock Holmes
Michael Stuhlbarg- A Serious Man

Who will win: Daniel Day-Lewis- Daniel Day-Lewis will win this prize. Every time DDL is in a flim, he gives a stellar performance. It is a joy to see a DDL movie come out because you can't wait to see how good he is going to be next. In Nine, DDL plays his role perfectly. He shows us everything about huis character that we need to know. He has a great screen presence and a wonderful style of acting. In Nine, he gives another great performance. Who should win: Matt Damon- Matt Damon had to really throw himself into character to play his role for The Informant. Not only did he have to change his physical apperance, he also had to dive into the crazy behavior and state of mind of his bipolar character, Mark Whitacre. Damon nails the persona of his character and acts so intensely, that you can't help but want him to get an award. Damon's role is one of his better as of late, and he is, in my opinion, the strongest of this category.

Best performance by an actress in a supporting role in a motion picture
Penelope Cruz- Nine
Vera Farmiga- Up in the Air
Anna Kendrick- Up in the Air
Mo'nique- Precious
Julianne Moore- A Single Man

Who will win: Mo'nique- Mo'nique's fearless role will win her this award. In a movie filled with outstanding performances, Mo'nique's stands alone. Her role as a violent, abusive and foul-mouthed mother is breathtakingly haunting . Mo'nique captures the viciousness of her character so well throught the film all the way up until the emotional final scene. Her ability to throw herself into such a wicked and evil character shows tremendous acting ability on her part. In my opinion, this was the best performance of the year without question. Mo'nique absolutely nails her role in every way, shape and form. Who should win: Mo'nique- Do I need to explain more?

Best performance by an actor in a supporting role in a motion picture
Matt Damon- Invictus
Woody Harrelson- The Messenger
Christopher Plummer- The Last Station
Stanley Tucci- The Lovely Bones
Christoph Waltz- Inglorious Basterds

Who will win: Christoph Waltz- Christoph Waltz will win this award. His role as "The Jew Hunter" was a brilliant part of this film. He was charming, yet vicious. Eccentric, yet subtle. Waltz's performance was outstandingly good throughout the film and he was able to capture that quirky evilness of his character. He nails every aspect of his character's persona and really shows his ability to act and give a stellar performance. Who should win: Christoph Waltz- Waltz's perforamnce is by far the strongest of this group. His performance was without question one of the best of the year. Waltz added sutch depth to Inglorious Basterds that it became a wonderful experience every time he was on screen. After watching the film, it seems that Christoph Waltz and this movie were made for each other. He works so well with the script and plays the character's persona brilliantly.

Best director- motion picture
Kathryn Bigelow- The Hurt Locker
James Cameron- Avatar
Clint Eastwood- Invictus
Jason Reitman- Up in the Air
Quintin Tarantino- Inglorious Basterds

Who will win: Kathryn Bigelow- Bigelow will win the best directing prize. The Hurt Locker's strong point is its directing. The film is so beautifully executed, that you are always on the edge of your seat, wondering what's going to happen next. Bigelow really makes this movie what it is: a wonderfully directed war-drama with great suspense and an amazing story. Who should win: Quintin Tarantino- Inglorious Basterds is a tremendously entertaining film to watch. Tarantino does a brilliant job of capturing the character's emotion and their environments throughout the film. Every scene is so mesmorizingly filled with action, suspense, drama and humor to the point where you can't wait to see what event will unfold next. Tarantino's directing is really what makes Inglorious Basterds what it is.

Best screenplay- motion picture
Niell Blomkamp, Terri Tachell- District 9
Mark Boal- The Hurt Locker
Quintin Tarantino- Inglorious Basterds
Nancy Meyers- It's Complicated
Jason Reitman, Sheldon Turner- Up in the Air

Who will win: Jason Reitman, Sheldon Turner- Up in the Air's writing and story are the film's high points. The story is enchanting and intriguing; hilarious and sad. The writing is phenomenal, as it enhances the characters and their personalities. It's incredibly smart and humourous and does a good job at making the audience laugh, and then emotionally attaching them to the story's characters. Who should win: Niell Blomkamp, Terri Tachell- District 9's story and writng are some of the most creative pieces of work that have opened up in the cinemas this year. The story is amazingly creative and it blends a sci-fi movie with a drama, yet not fully going over into the realm of space operas. The writing is superb and extremely creative. The writing and stroy of this movie are some of the best all year. One can only imagine how the writiers for District 9 had to sit down and come up with this gem of a story.

Agree with some, not with others, but I still don't see how Inglorious Basterds qualifies as a drama.
