First off, I'm sorry I haven't posted any reviews lately, like Fuel and Overlord 2. I couldn't get my hands on ANY recent games, but I hope to start back up soon with a review in late July of Blazblue, the anime fighter. I think.
Okay, onto Ghostbusters. Does busting on a console really make you feel good? Damn right it does.
First off, the good. The story is a huge highlight of this game. The dialogue is spot on for all the characters, and all the original voices are back, even Peck from the first movie. You play as the voice-less new recruit (You find out his name later), also the Prototype-weapons-tester. The story brings Gozer back into the picture, the villain from the first movie. You fight the destroyer form, the Stay Puft Marshmellow Man early in the game, and the city and your adventures are pieced together throughout the game. It's great, and really fucking funny.
The gameplay in this game reminds me of a combination of Gears of War and Luigis Mansion. The third person angle and weapons, and the ghost capturing with the traps. There are 4 weapons in this game, the regular Proton Stream, a Shotgun-ish plasma shooter, a Slime Thrower and a Proton Machine gun. They all have alt-fires, and are all very useful in different situations, like solving puzzles with the Slime Thrower's alt-fire, the Slime Tether. You can attach two ends of slime to one another to pull things toward you. It's a cool idea and well executed in my eyes. The ghost fighting is fun, but can get a little repetetive at times, but fighting non-ghosts, like The Undead characters, never gets old. The ragdoll when you kill them is great.
Also the destruction plays a big role. Almost everything in this game can be smashed into little pieces, kind of like Star Wars: The Force Unleased. After you clear out a room, it's but a smoldering patch of Ghostbusting awesomeness.
The Graphics in the game are great, but there are some HEAVY framerate issues. Whenever the action gets intense with maybe 8 characters on screen, the framerate drops enormously. It can get really annoying at times, and caused me to die at least 3 times.
So all in all, the game is fun, albeit a tiny bit repetetive. If you're a fan of the Ghostbusters movies, you'll LOVE the game just based on the story. The weapons are fun to play with, and the wide selection of Ghosts is beastly. Long live the Ghostbusters.
Final Score: 8
