If there was one project that never seemed like it was going to get off the ground, it was 'Ghostbusters 3.' This project has had so many problems in the pre-production stages that the idea of it taking the next step seemed about as likely as an actual 100-foot marshmallow man stomping on New York. There were script problems, plenty of false starts, and one very obstinate original cast member who could not be moved to reprise his role. We won't say who, but it rhymes with Bill Murray. But according to a report that landed online today, it looks like Sony has scheduled the start of shooting on 'Ghostbusters 3' for next summer. This juicy tidbit actually came as part of a long announcement of Paramount's release schedule. Ivan Reitman and Kevin Costner are teaming up for a sports comedy called 'Draft Day,' but, according to the report, Paramount opted not to make the comedy in the small schedule opening between now and next summer...when apparently Reitman is supposed to be shooting 'GB 3.'
Two things here. First and foremost, until there is footage from the actual filming of 'Ghostbusters 3,' take any and all news about its imminent production with an enormous grain of salt. And maybe not even then. We've been fooled many times, both by well-intentioned, but shortsighted filmmakers involved and by the thundering rumor mill of the internet. This report could still just be Paramount working off an old schedule and planning for the possibility of director unavailability. It could end up coming to pass that someone at Sony just needs to email someone at Paramount and say, "hey, no, 'Ghostbusters 3' ain't happening," and 'Draft Day' will be reallocated to that supposed 'GB 3'window. I mean come on, do they even have a cast? Also, at this point, do we even want this movie to happen? We know for certain Bill Murray will not be back and, despite the intriguing idea of the old guard passing the proton batons to a younger crop of busters in the third film, I don't see it working without him no matter how hard they attempt to force it.
What do you guys think? Do you actually think 'Ghostbusters 3' will start shooting next summer? Is anyone still optimistic about the movie in general?

Comment by Paul William Gregory on October 20, 2012 at 7:33pm There's already been a Ghostbusters 3, and it was called Ghostbusters The Video Game, it had most of the original cast in it and everything! There's really no need for this.
Comment by Swamp Music Players SMP on October 20, 2012 at 3:57am They should just bring in Bill as Garfield
Comment by Yourbigpalal83 on October 19, 2012 at 2:26pm I too wont believe a word of it till i see some actual footage! untill then, its just a pipe dream to me thats been tormenting me since i saw ghostbusters 2 when i was 6 years old!
Comment by The Ultimate "Psych" Fan on October 19, 2012 at 1:41pm I'm still not 100% convinced Bill won't make a surprise appearance somewhere in the movie. Remember with the release of Saw III, how pretty much everyone on set said that Donnie Wahlberg was definitely not going to be in the movie? But, when it finally was released the very first shot was of him in the bathroom.
FALSE ADVERTISING FTW!
Comment by Charles Foster on October 19, 2012 at 12:57pm Or Murray with Costner... You know what I meant.
Comment by Charles Foster on October 19, 2012 at 12:55pm At this point I can believe they're going to swap Costner with Murray in order to get this done.
You heard it here first.
Comment by Mainstream12 on October 19, 2012 at 9:47am You can't use Bill Murray to rhyme with Bill Murray. That's bad poetry.
Comment by adam on October 19, 2012 at 9:43am Doubt that it will happen, but Id watch it if it did get a release.
Comment by Jojotogi on October 19, 2012 at 7:47am I'm just amazed someone other than Dan Akroyd is telling the public Ghostbusters 3 will get made.
