If it's crap... We'll tell you

Source: The Hollywood Reporter

The Hollywood Reporter states that Francis Lawrence (Constantine, I Am Legend) will direct Sgt. Rock for Warner Bros., DC Entertainment, Silver Pictures and Weed Road Entertainment.

Chad St. John will write the screenplay and Joel Silver, Akiva Goldsman, Andrew Rona and Kerry Foster are producing. Silver has been trying to make the movie for close to 20 years now and at one point had Arnold Schwarzenegger attached to star.

Sgt. Frank Rock was the leader of his infantry unit, Easy Company. He first appeared in a 1959 issue of “Our Army at War.” In 1977, the comic was renamed “Sgt. Rock” and ran until 1988. The film originally had a WWII setting, true to the origins of the military hero, but the new take will update the story to modern times.

Guy Ritchie most recently was attached to “Rock,” having worked on the script he was attached to direct. He has moved on to work with Silver on DC Comics’ anti-hero pic Lobo.

Modernizing Sgt Rock? Great. Now they are going to alienate all the hardcore fans... all 10 of them.
Nick Sears Comment by Nick Sears on November 10, 2009 at 11:09pm
ya fuckin bullshit modernizing sgt. Rock. All the fans won't go see it cause they modernize it and the general public doesn't wanna see another fuckin middle east war movie, even critically acclaimed hurt locker did make any money. this would totally bomb at the box office and it shouldnt even be done.

I agree with all of the calls not to modernize Sgt. Rock. Frankly, I just watched my son in law get on a bus with the rest of his outfit to catch a plane for their deploment to Afganistan. No way does that conflict or Iran need to be made into a comic book movie (yeah I know so did Iron man and that is the only part of that flick I have a problem with) Sgt. Rock was great in his time but that time has come and gone. Lawrence is a good director. He knows how to do "dark" and use CG. But this is not the film for his talents. Christ, it seems they are just trying to grab anything comic and make it into a movie. Want to use lawrence's talents on a comic? Bring back Superman. Do "The Death of Superman" that is dark. There has been rumors for the last couple of years they want to "darken Superman" there you go. Modernize Sgt. Rock. Bull......

Don't modernize this! Hollywood will just write some bullshit story, water it down, and end up with some bullshit half arse spew of a film that will interest no-one.

I could've sworn that picture was of Bradley Cooper.

omg Mister Keitel that is EXACTLY what I thought when I saw the picture. You beat me to the punch!

Are we talking Band of Brothers Easy Company? Or just another E Company..hm
MisterKeitel Comment by MisterKeitel on November 10, 2009 at 2:50pm

Is it my imagination or does this guy look like an older version of Bradley Cooper who has traveled from the future – which might explain his desire to place Sgt. Rock in the future too. I wonder.

Zeek Slider I think the last thing anyone wants to think about when they go to the movies is how many calories they are consuming. Shows what I know.
