The Hollywood Reporter states that
Francis Lawrence (
Constantine,
I Am Legend) will direct
Sgt. Rock for Warner Bros., DC Entertainment, Silver Pictures and Weed Road Entertainment.
Chad St. John will write the screenplay and
Joel Silver,
Akiva Goldsman,
Andrew Rona and
Kerry Foster are producing. Silver has been trying to make the movie for close to 20 years now and at one point had
Arnold Schwarzenegger attached to star.
Sgt. Frank Rock was the leader of his infantry unit, Easy Company. He first appeared in a 1959 issue of “Our Army at War.” In 1977, the comic was renamed “Sgt. Rock” and ran until 1988. The film originally had a WWII setting, true to the origins of the military hero, but the new take will update the story to modern times.
Guy Ritchie most recently was attached to “Rock,” having worked on the script he was attached to direct. He has moved on to work with Silver on DC Comics’ anti-hero pic
Lobo.
