File this one under "whaaaa?" - 20th Century Fox is apparently planning to once again reboot the 'Zorro' franchise with a film called 'Zorro Reborn'. In the film, we will be re-introduced to the swashbuckling hero who fights for justice in a historic California setting... except replace "justice" with "revenge" and "historic California" with "post-apocalyptic wasteland".

That's right, Fox has decided that their new Zorro franchise will take placed in the scarred and desolate plains of a destroyed future, with a new Zorro who - instead of being a wealthy crusader for justice - will be a lone vigilante bent on revenge. Because we've never ever seen a lone warrior wandering a post-apocalyptic wasteland before. Ever.

The film will be directed by pre-viz specialist Rpin Suwannath (who has worked on several high budget visual effects films such as 'X-Men' and 'Chronicles of Narnia'), and is being written by Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy, who's only other writing credit is the preliminary script for Warner Bros. Dracula reboot called 'Harker'.

No actors have been attached to the project, but the script is intended to be a starring vehicle for a much younger actor (first person to say Garrett Hedlund gets a Z to the chest). In a cinematic landscape where everyone and their grandmother is trying to make the next big "dark and gritty" franchise, one can only hope that this film never makes it off the written page.

20th Century Fox, I have seen League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, both Fantastic Four movies, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Elektra, Daredevil, Dragonball Evolution, the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still and Alvin and the Chipmunks.

So believe me when I say that this is honestly the stupidest thing I think you've ever put down on paper.

Do...do we really need this?  At least I still have The Hobbit to look forward too.
