First Trailer For 'Seeking A Friend for The End Of The World'

Steve Carrell, outside of 'The Office,' is very hit or miss with me. Some of his films really work for me and others make me ponder his appropriateness as a leading man. But what I love pretty consistently is a good, old-fashioned end-of-the-world story. That's why I'm intrigued by this first trailer for 'Seeking a Friend for the End of the World.' Lorene Scafaria's ('Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist') upcoming comedy centers on a meteor headed for Earth. All contingencies have failed and the Earth will essentially be destroyed in three weeks. Carrell strikes up a friendship with a neighbor (Keira Knightley) and the two of them set out on a road trip to tie up the loose ends of their life before it's too late. What I like about the trailer is the idea of a standard road comedy set against the backdrop of humanity's last, desperate days...because that's hilarious! I love that the T.G.I. Friday employees are not only still working, but are also as chipper as ever. Not all the gags work for me, (arrested for a speeding ticket, really?), but overall my interest is piqued. Take a look at the trailer below and let us know what you think.

I realize that it is a comedy guys. But it looks very by the numbers, and by that I just mean they will hit the comedic beats that all of these movies hit- but never dare to do anything outlandish/interesting. And it will end with that meteor breaking up in the atmosphere or completely missing the earth.

And DSWynne I guess to a point you are right, it just seems like a mixed bag.....

@metalraygear: Not everyone is going to raise hell at the end of the time of the end of the world.  In fact, some will just continue to do their entire routine because it's the only thing they have left that has any meaning.

@PirateLordBush: I think the fun part would be if the world did not end, and see how much of the world has changed.  After all, if you committed all kinds of questionable things, imagine the blowback that will take place.  I remember one "Sliders" episode where the world was saved from a falling asteroid, and, the next day, there was a massive lawsuit against a realtor who bought all of LA on the cheap, taking advantage of the crisis.  But technically, he would be in the right since the original owners DID sign away their property.  You know, stuff like that.

Reminds me of another funny man's depressing comedy. Will Ferrell's 'Everything Must Go'.

Ugh.... metalraygear... it's a comedy.  You either go with the world they've set up or you don't.

Here are the problems that I see. They have mobs and riots going on indicating that civilized society has crumbled- yet the police have time to give Steve a ticket/ arrest him. Also why would anyone still be going to work? That includes Steve, the friendsies, and the police. Some one tells me the worlds ending... it's over I am not participating in my everyday life.
