First Trailer For 'Killing Them Softly'

After a brief, but excellent clip from Andrew Dominik's 'Killing Them Softly' hit the web back in May, we now have the first trailer for the film. 'Killing Them Softly' stars Brad Pitt as a hitman assigned to bring down a couple of low-rent crooks who rob a mob-protected card game. The supporting cast here is incredible. Ray Liotta, Richard Jenkins, James Gandolfini, and Sam Shepard? Excellent! I love the use of the Johnny Cash song in this trailer. Truth be told, I love it when Johnny Cash is used in any trailer. Take a look at the trailer below and let us know what you think.

'Killing Them Softly' hits theaters September 21st

Saw this at the Cannes Film Festival. It's interesting that the trailer makes it seem like Brad Pitt is "going round' taking names" as the Cash song implies. It's really quite the opposite of that. It's dialogue heavy, with one amazing visual sequence. I was so amped going into it but was kinda underwhelmed in the end. It's not necessarily a bad film, you just expect more given the cast and the set up. They don't give James Gandolfini's character really anything to do, and they shove this political commentary on top of the whole film which gets old pretty fast. Worth watching at least once, but I think its in that Low Matinee-High Rental area. Can't wait for the SpillCrew to review it.

Since Gangster Squad is pushed back to 2013, I have to get my gangster fix somehow.

I will be seeing this.

The cast is ridiculous. Where's all the women though?

Remember the movie The Mexican where James Gandolfihini plays a gay criminal and Brad Pitt plays well Brad Pitt.

A stripped-down crime thriller from the director of The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford? Say no more. If it receives a wide-release, I'll be seeing it opening day.
