First Trailer For Kathryn Bigelow's 'Zero Dark Thirty'

I'm a big fan of Kathryn Bigelow. Sure, 'The Hurt Locker' was a great film, but it was 'Near Dark' and 'Point Break' that fostered my creative crush on the Oscar-winning Bigelow. Her latest film, the upcoming 'Zero Dark Thirty' continues her fascination with the military and tells the story of the Navy SEAL team that took down Osama bin Laden. The first trailer has just the web and, shows us surprisingly little. I'm not complaining mind you, I hate spoilers and I saw enough to know I'm interested. I love the "redacted" lines that permeate the various shots. Take a look at the trailer below and let us know what you think.

'Zero Dark Thirty' hits theaters October 12th

Of course they will never put together an accurate picture of War together, because in real War...there are no heroes vs villains...There is just killing, raping, destruction, and mayhem.

Generation Kill was definitely well put together.  And they for sure got the mentality and lingo of the grunts down.  That has to be one of the most accurate depictions of these current wars I've ever seen.  Although, I admittedly try and avoid most war movies based on OEF/OIF because they're probably just going to piss me off.

Actually it can be but people might not like what they see. Generation Kill was a fictional mini series on HBO but it is very true to the way marines act in Iraq I think it is the closest thing to an acurate portrail of the Iraq War.

The hurt locker wasn't an acurate portrail and this film won't be either. There is no way hollywood knows what happened and who was involved because most of the details are classified to protect the sources of the information and the families of the sailors that were a part of the SEAL team from retaliation from terrorist cells still active in the US and abroad. This will be a glitzy hollywood bullshit movie like JFK which is fine as long as your aware it is bullshit. Expect maybe 30 percent accuracy at best. The whole "the real story" tagline is about as trustworthy as that "based on a true story" bullshit they sling out in front of horror movies. I like war movies with action and dramatic heft as long as they are self aware and arn't lying to people and claiming they are almost a documentary when they are in fact about as realistic as the Blair Witch.....

All I'm saying is, true war is something you can't portray in film.  If you could, 18 people a day that saw that movie would kill themselves.

If what I've heard is true, Bigelow has had documentation of what happened from leaked documents in emails...but onto the topic, yes, it is both very early and reeks of propaganda. I don't care if it's Bigelow or not. Really? IF this movie does indeed come out on October 12th, you know it's a plug to up the approval rating.

Comment by Luke Hero on August 7, 2012 at 4:03pm

GOOD, but it still stinks of propaganda...It's like...Hey we couldn't actually show you any real evidence that we actually killed Bin Laden...but here is a movie about it.

Comment by Luke Hero on August 7, 2012 at 4:00pm

The film was originally to be released in October 2012, just before the presidential election. It has been argued that the film is used as propaganda for the Obama administration.[10][11] As a response, Sony changed the release date to December.[12][13]

I also feel its a bit early for this...buuuuut if anyone is gonna do it. it should be Bigelow. The Hurt Locker was definitely gritty as hell.

personally im tired of this war. i felt like the only accomplishment was killing bin laden and hussein and yet i still feel like too many lives have been lost over...confusion pretty much. yes those nations need to be stabalized but I still think a civil war or some type of revolution is whats really needed. for the people to step up and work together. we cant just occupy a country forever..then walk away as if they wont follow us.

do i think millions of dollars should be spent on the war every week? fuck no...i think millions of dollars should be spent on fixing our own nation first..and also used to help other countries when they are in need. this war is bullshit. i dont care what anyone says..go ahead and try to convince me that this war was for the better...try to...cause you wont change my mind. many friends have come back from iraq and afghanistan. one is a staff seargant and im glad hes home cause nobody deserves to be there.

its funny how millions of dollars is spent on death...and how someone like taylor swift can make $45 million a year..but the working class is still suffering hard. competing for jobs for chump change..facing forecloser..cant afford the hospital bills. idk..1 thing is definitely for sure..this country is fuuuuuucked.

Being deployed during the time of Bin Laden's take-down, I'm kind of apprehensive.  Hollywood just doesn't know how to get this shit right yet.  Then again, I doubt they ever will.  Look at that last crap-fest, Act of Valor.

They just need to stop making so many goddamn War on Terror movies and wait a few years after it's all died down.  The emotional impact this movie will be minimal.  If it came out ten to twenty years from now, then I might be interested.
