As it happens, though I too was forced to read it in school, 'The Great Gatsby' is one of my favorite books and I absolutely love the 1974 film version starring Robert Redford. I'm not sure if it's my affinity for the character or the original film that makes me uneasy about this first trailer for Baz Luhrmann's version. In the new film, Leonardo DiCaprio will be playing the tortured titular protagonist with Carey Mulligan playing Daisy (the object of his affection) and Tobey Maguire playing Nick (his only apparent friend). There's something about the way Leo is portraying Gatsby, albeit in brief flashes, that seem out of whack; not quite as poised as Gatsby should be. But again, it's a trailer, it's incredibly difficult to judge. Take a look at the trailer below and let us know what you think.
'The Great Gatsby' hits theaters December 25th
