Gary LeVine posted a statusThis is going to be the day of the sci-fi, post-Earth future movies. First up we have the international trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's 'After Earth,' which also happens to be the first one we've seen. 'After Earth' revolves around a father and son exploration team (Will Smith and his actual son Jaden) that crash lands on a very hostile Earth one thousand years in the future. There trailer reveals plenty of flashy effects-driven moments of awe, but also a few things that trouble me; some of the animal effects appear to be fairly rubbery for example. The biggest concern is still the name Shyamalan in the credits, but it remains to be seen whether he can pull himself out of his current career tailspin. Take a look at the trailer below and let us know what you think.
'After Earth' hits theaters June 7th, 2013

Comment by Masked Anti-Hero on December 12, 2012 at 10:32am Have faith, people. This is from the man who wrote and directed Unbreakable. I still think there's talent left in him. Fingers crossed.
Comment by Siriusly Black on December 11, 2012 at 6:58pm M Night Shyamalan is a genuinely talented director, he just keeps letting that hack of a writer (M Night Shyamalan) write all his movies.
Comment by Boatloads1017 on December 11, 2012 at 1:56pm Oh man, they revealed the "Earth the whole time" twist in the trailer. Also, I'm calling it now, they're just on the Holodeck. Or a dream. One of the two.
Comment by Zgamer on December 11, 2012 at 1:01pm Does Will Smith sound a bit....different here? I know he is getting older, but his voice just seems a bit off. It must be a performance thing for the role, but it is strange to not here that trademark Will Smith voice coming out of his mouth.
I think this shows promise. At least M. Night is not plastering his name all over the trailer like usual. And at least it looks like he is trying to some degree to make the movie presentable. He does have the talent to make good movies (even in his bad ones you can usually see his good qualities as a filmmaker), but he needs to just focus on the basics of storytelling without trying to run on the gimmick of twists. The Sixth Sense worked because it was a well thought out script, not just because of the genuinely cool twist. If he focuses on that here, maybe it will be worth it.
Comment by Luke Hero on December 11, 2012 at 11:58am I liked the first half of the Village...But, Once you find out the monsters are fake...the movie is ruined
I'm interested, I hope M. Night can pull it off, I think he's still a good director despite Devil and The Happening. But we'll see.....
