Justified Julius posted a statusTom Cruise seems to have somewhere in the neighborhood of eight projects lined up over the next couple years. One such project is Joseph Kosinski's 'Oblivion.' The movie takes place in a distant future and revolves around a drone repairman (Cruise) who risks everything to rescue a stranger from a downed spacecraft. Clearly, from the description, we're dealing with large-scale sci-fi here. However, if we needed further proof of that, the first poster for the movie has just been released. It is a beautiful image of what used to be skyscrapers, now so long abandoned that they have become part of the surrounding rock and water cascades over them. Cruise's character seems so small and insignificant, and I dig the design of his craft. I gotta say, I'm amped to see this now. Take a look at the poster below and let us know what you think.

Comment by Gift of the Magi on December 10, 2012 at 8:07am Looks...interesting, if a bit basic. Let's see how it rolls.

Eh, I wouldn't say based on a graphic novel. The director wrote it and probably did so to give the movie some promotion. But still, sure, I'm in too. Might be cool.

Comment by David on December 9, 2012 at 2:24pm Oh wow, even better than I thought. It's directed by Joseph Kosinski, who directed "Tron: Legacy" - he DIDN'T write it, so he's not responsible for the shabby script, only for the great look and feel of that film. He'll be writing this film, along with - wait for it - Michael Arndt, who did "Little Miss Sunshine", and William Monahan, who wrote "The Departed", and of course, got the academy award for it.
So, what we have here is a big-budget, gritty, post-apocalyptic sci-fi epic - based on a graphic novel - starring Tom Cruise and Morgan fucking Freeman, directed by somebody who made one of the most interesting-looking films in recent years, and written by academy award-winning screenwriters. Count me the fuck in.
Comment by David on December 9, 2012 at 2:10pm BTW, here's the trailer. It looks even more awesome than the poster. Mostly because a warmly familiar face makes an appearance about halfway through.
