FF Report Day 5: The Beatles, Clones, Rubber, Head Explosions, Geek trivia.

My back is killing from yesterday, but I am going to work thru the pain to cover the festival.

GOLDEN SLUMBER

A nice way to start the day with a hopeful and happy film, this movie was directed by Yoshihiro Nakamura, he directed my favorite film from last years FF “Fish Story”. The story is about a nice young man who is made a patsy by government officials in the assassination of the Japanese Prime Minister. Now he is hunted by the authorities and assassins. He is help along the way by people he has aided in the past. Even the local serial killer is helping him. He has to find the evidence to prove his innocence.

The Beatles song Golden Slumber is repeated thru out the movie. It illustrates friends who were very close with each other in their youth, but have drifted apart over the years. It also serves as the thread connecting different people together. This movie is reminiscent of the old Hitchcock thrillers of the innocent man who is being frame of a crime he did not commit. Were it seems the whole world is now against you. I am amaze how he has managed to keep this complex storyline together.

I give this movie A better than sex.

SECRET SCREENING 2

The movie playing at the secret screening was “Never Let Me Go” from director Mark Romanek. I should also add he was at the screening. He actually told us he was lucky to get this movie after the wolf man debacle.

In the movie we follow the short lives of clones from preparatory school to young adulthood. The clones get to live a normal life until they reach their early 30s and then they have to donate their organs one at a time. They don’t get to live much; but they try to find a way to make the most of their short time.

I have mixed feeling about this movie, the cinematography is beautiful. There are some amazing shots in this movie. I just found the clones boring. The acting is really flat. I did not care one bit about this people or their fate.

Once the clones leave the preparatory school they go to live by themselves, with what seems little supervision. We never get a moment in which they at least thinking about escaping, they just seem to accept their fate. I was also bother of how these clones just wait in their residence for the moment in which they get the call to give up their organs. They never show a moment in which these clones are trying to live their short life. If I knew I was going to live a short life; I am going to make the most of my short time.

I give this movie a rental

RUBBER

I miss the award ceremony for the first time. I just had to catch the last screening of this movie. The premise just sounded incredible. A tire comes to life and possesses psychic powers which he uses to blow peoples heads off. Doesn’t that sound like an awesome premise?

I don’t want to give you too much of the plot. All I can’t tell you this is a film about “No Reason”. I do love the film intentness and outside the tire thinking. I want some behind the scenes footage of how they moved the tire. If you love cinema which breaks all the rules you should watch this movie.

I give it a full price

FANTASTIC FEUD

I did not get to participate in the feud this year. I still had fun at the feud. Once again the main attraction was Nacho Vigalondo who was wearing a hausu shirt over his head. Once again the USA team continues their winning streak. The highlight of the event was Nacho Vigalondo tackling Elijah Woods into the ground.
