Fantasy Adventure traded for "Realism and Mature themes and why you can't OUT FOX FOX.

Greetings from the Abysmal depths of Gargamel. It is I Hellsing3000 resident bloodsucker at Spill.com.

It seems that all film has lost it's innocence nowadays in an attempt to cash in on stories that are told about our childhood favorites. I realize that taking creative liberties is the reason for this being that the directors of such movies are given the sometimes daunting task of packing years of material into a 1 and a half hour film.( I now understand Carlyle's criticism of Fox)

On the heels of the Dark Knight's critical and commercial success all, if not some of the studios seem to go for what's hot and not what said series was about. Words like re-imagining, different universe, reality. When these attempts get out of control making these films into live action advertisements rather than adaptations.

There is something to be said for creativity where the writer and or director take it for granted and make something that is a bad representation or introduction for new fans of the film or franchise. Thus I pose the question how do people get jobs to make movies like street fighter legend of chun li and other shows like Dragonball Evolution. What motivates the Ceos hire someone that may do it for less than nothing ( a real fan) rather than a hired hack that seeks to disgrace a these beloved dynasties.

It is clear to alot of audiences that some movies are made in the attempt to seek a larger audience. Ok, fantasy is not for everyone and that is a valid argument. With movies like Harry Potter (Warner Bros)and Lord of the Rings it is clear that the fantasy genre is still going strong. Mythology is a fickle mistress as Street Fighter is and always has been about a tournament of fighters as are many video games. (Fighting)

I have to pose another question that is very troubling. Is the American viewer or audience any smarter than they were some 20 years ago? Can anyone even an ignorant toddler (Ben Ramsey) scribble a script onto paper with finger paint and crayons. If you are angry about talentless hacks that get these jobs? The answer is a resounding Yes, it is well known saying that It is not about your whether you have the best or most compelling script in Hollywood, but Who you know and knows you.

No studio has made this more evident than 20th Century FOX having mastered the art of the Box Office Bomb. 20th Century FOX was for me a respected movie studio are now famous for their Habit of producing B movie pseudo Blockbusters and have not come up with any real Box Office Gold since the X Men Trilogy.

I don't expect anyone to agree with what I'm saying but I find Fox's lack of regard for quality film making a disheartening step back for the future of Cinema. I really wish the Wolverine Fiasco had never found its way to Spill.com's homepage in the form of a review. Under the leadership of Tom Rothman Fox seems to be more and more disappointing every year.Obviously I don't know what the leaker of Wolverine was thinking you can't OUT FOX , FOX.

So I saw the Trailer for Dragonball Evolution and My initial response was "Man this is Fuckry" somehow they managed to put out a movie about a japanese animation juggernaut ,minus the Fantasy. This formula only works for shows with mature subtext like Batman franchise.I have to say that being that this is a movie about Dragonball and not Dragonball Z I am not expecting a scifi Special Effects Extravaganza. I still expected the director to treat the story with respect. While this was almost a guaranteed box office success. This is not a review about the movie but if fans and non fans opinions of the movie have made clear, this is another example of 20th Century Fox's commitment to producing these cheap stage plays that might have been called films back in 1990 a la Street Fighter 1.

If you are a fan of action movies you probably won't bother to see Street Fighter and Dragonball Evolution but I've got to say that Fox does have a target audience. It's not just the guy that knows nothing of the Mythology of these films but also the folks hoping that Fox will pull up their socks the next time and make quality movies, with the rumored sequels. Something that Fox does not know how to do.

Some early reviews for the movie have come in at RottenTomatoes. Now those that rate the movie well seem to be rating the movie based on the series' merit and seem to have not seen the movie. Some are rating it well as a joke to irritate and anger the fanboy purist of the fun Fantasy,Martial Arts, Action, Adventure Comedy that is Dragonball and Dragonball Z serials by Akira Toriyama. This is all understandable because for the casual anime fan that does not know about the practice of Filler Episodes in Japan that makes the series seem more dull at times. This series is the model for what all Anime should be in that it was revolutionary for its time, when most are all anime at the time were focused on Big Robots i.e. Mechs. It is considered the Greatest Anime of all time by most, or ranks right up there with series like Gundam, Robotech, Astroboy, Speed Racer and other great titles.(oldschool)

Actors are defending the film but then again that's a part of their job so I never believe them. The movie may be a strong candidate for worst movie of the year. FOX needs an overhaul as a film company and should be now known as X MEN STUDIOS. I'm convinced now that Reality is just a term or an excuse to make any Comic, Anime or Novel of the Sci Fi or Fantasy genre for less money.

My final argument is this. Perhaps the most disturbing thing about this show, is not the decision to cast a Caucasian actor as Goku most fans and non fans are quite aware that Goku's unique look could never be perfectly translated to film or that of many other characters like Roshi and Bulma and other reported missing characters. probably would look nothing like their animated counterparts. It is acceptable. For fans the characters lack all the innocence and charm the first universe was about. It is 20th Century Fox's disdain for Foreign properties that they bought the right to make movies of. It borders on prejudice in that the company has poured all their money into making a Wolverine another title from 20th Century X Men Studios and is ignorant of the value of the Foreign made Products are treated with little care and an even smaller budget.
I will go and watch this 83 minute debacle as an expensive spoof that fox made to insult the fans for 40 million dollars. Enjoy.

I don't even think it's about replacing elements purposely so much as Fox just not giving a shit about anything other then money.
