'Expendables 3' To Feature Clint Eastwood And Harrison Ford?
With 'The Expendables 2' opening this week it's not surprising that producer Avi Lerner would already be looking forward to the third installment of the franchise; that's a producer's m.o. However, it's a bit surprising that Lerner is already talking to, and about, prospective cast members for the next film presumably before a script has even been finalized. But according to comments he made in a recent interview, talks have indeed begun with some very formidable talent. Here's what he said...
"We’ve approached Clint Eastwood to be one of the guys, we’ve got a character in mind for him. We’re talking to Harrison Ford. [And we want] Wesley Snipes when he comes back from prison. I’ll give you one more name, we’ve got Nicolas Cage to play [one of the characters]. And we’re going to bring Mickey Rourke back, if he won’t be too crazy. I like Mickey. And of course, all the existing stars [will return]."
At first, glance, this seems like great news for 'The Expendables 3.' Adding more legends of this caliber is an impressive feat. Harrison Ford is a holy geek triumvirate; we're talking Han Solo, Indiana Jones, and Deckard from 'Blade Runner.' It's also funny that I just joked on Friday about 'The Magnificent Seven' remake having the potential to be 'The Expendables' of western legends if they brought in Clint Eastwood. However, depending on which characters don't survive part two, this could be the most dangerously overloaded cast in recent memory. How will they possibly be able to balance the current roster AND add in Eastwood, Ford, Nicolas Cage, and Wesley Snipes? Granted, we're counting chickens before they hatch here, as it seems only Cage is definitely on board at this time. I just hope they are casting the right actors for the roles in the script and not simply grabbing as many big names as they can. Otherwise, by the time the fourth 'Expendables' roll it around it will just be called The People's Choice Awards.
What do guys think? Can the next 'Expendables' land this much talent? Would that overload the movie?
