If it's crap ... We'll tell you
The already enormous cast of Robert Rodriguez's 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For' has added another name. Eva Green ('Casino Royale') has just signed on to play the role of Ava Lord in this sequel to Rodriguez's 2005 adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic novel series. Ava Lord was the one true love of the character Dwight, played in this outing by Josh Brolin, but in this story, taking place before 'The Big Fat Kill,' reconciling with her may be the biggest mistake he's ever made. Apart from Green, the latest additions to the cast include Ray Liotta, Jeremy Piven, Juno Temple, and a returning Bruce Willis. 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For' is currently shooting in Austin and is slated for an October 4th release.
When Frank Miller described Ava Lord, he referred to her as "every man’s most glorious dreams come true, she's also every man's darkest nightmares." If there is one actress who could pull off that sort of diametric femme fatale, it's definitely Eva Green. She's strikingly beautiful, but also has a pronounced edge to her that I think will serve the film well. All that being said, my biggest concern with 'Sin City 2' is that it has always seemed like things were under the gun and in fact sprinting to get caught up to where they need to be. It seems like the majority of the important casting for the movie didn't even begin until after they announced the release date, which already seemed too close for comfort. Case in point, with just a hair over eight months before the movie is supposed to hit theaters, they've just cast Ava Lord...the actual dame to which the title refers. I hope Rodriguez can work some magic and get this thing shot, cut, and the extensive effects work completed by October without the entire thing feeling rushed.
What do you guys think? Are you happy that Eva Green has been cast as Ava Lord? If not, who would have been your choice?
