After snaring 'Hugo's Asa Butterfield as its lead, 'Ender's Game' - the big screen adaptation of Orson Scott Card's sci-fi novel - went on a full scale casting blitz. The film now boasts a roster that includes Harrison Ford, Abigail Breslin ('Zombieland,' 'Little Miss Sunshine'), and Hailee Steinfeld ('True Grit'). Once again, the story of 'Ender's Game' revolves around a pint-sized genius recruited by the government to aid in the destruction of insect-like aliens. Ford is set to play Colonel Hyram Graff, the man in charge of training new military recruits. Breslin will play Ender's older sister, Valentine Wiggin, and Steinfeld will portray Petra Arkanian, Ender's most trusted ally. According to reports, these are all locked deals. The film version will be helmed by Gavin Hood ('X-Men Origins: Wolverine'). At this time, the official release date for 'Ender's Game' is March 15, 2013.
Clearly, the 'Ender's Game' filmmakers are not messing around. Harrison Ford may have been, shall we say, a touch uneven in his last few projects, but he is still a box office draw and a geek icon. They've also gone out and snagged some of the best young actors in (forgive me) the game today to occupy the youth roles. Asa Butterfield proved his worth against the likes of Ben Kingsley in 'Hugo,' Steinfeld earned an Oscar nomination for her work with the Coen brothers in 'True Grit,' and Breslin already has a resume chock full of impressive performances. Ben Kingsley, by the way, is also set to appear in 'Ender's Game.' Given that my biggest concern with this project is the fact that Gavin Hood is directing, it's comforting to know that the cast is being populated with people who already know what they're doing regardless of their age.
What do you guys think of this cast? Are you interested in seeing an 'Ender's Game' movie?

Comment by Al Luo on December 25, 2011 at 3:43pm Anybody who thinks Orson Scott Card is a homophobic bigot should go back and read an old book he wrote called Songbird. It's pretty hard to find now, but if you do read it, you might realize the truth is a lot more complicated than you think...
Comment by WheatBread85 on December 25, 2011 at 10:00am I was in until I found out the guy who did X-Men Origins is directing. Expect this to be a piece of shit...
Comment by Cman5000 on December 24, 2011 at 11:33pm I think this movie has more going for it than against it. awsome acters vs. a crappy director can end up like the first 2 star wars prequils our somthing beter.
Okay, but do u really want a director, known for being a director for hire. Im starting to get sick feeling in my gut, like im about to be submitted to another shitstorm. At least the actors are good, and for Harrison Ford to sign on then the script hopefully looks good too. Im praying that this will be good bc i loved the books, but also not holding my breath for another Ghost Rider.
Comment by The Dubya on December 23, 2011 at 10:16am I must admit, the casting alone looks quite impressive...
@Peter Parqa:
Yeah I'm gonna cut Gavin Hood some slack too. I blame Hugh Jackman and the studios for that mess of a movie more than him. They were the ones with all the power. He was more than likely treated like a director-for-hire.

I would say maybe not so much.
You lost me at the director of X-men origins: Wolverine.
@ fuck all you guys. the director is known for one great indie movie and one disastrous shitfest. They didnt give him that much control. not his fault. spiderman 3 was the same
No word yet on who will be playing Bean eh? That's the role I'm really curious about because he's just as important to the story (if not more so) than Ender.
