If it's crap ... We'll tell you
Emma Roberts ('The Art of Getting By', 'Scream 4') is the latest addition to 'Empire State', a heist film based on "true events" (note the heavy quotation marks there) that happened in 1982 when two childhood friends from Astoria, N.Y. planned to rob an armored car depository. The 21-year old actress joins the cast alongside Dwayne Johnson and Liam "the other" Hemsworth as a waitress and potential love interest. Hemsworth plays one of the two friends involved in the heist and - in a bit of risky and entirely-unlike-him casting - Johnson will play a tough and gritty (yet probably coyly sarcastic) NYPD detective out to catch him.
'Empire State' is being directed by Dito Montiel - who most Spillios will likely know from his film 'A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints' - for Mandeville Films and is expected to go into production later this year. Roberts has been fairly busy in Hollywood lately, appearing in a slew of medium to low-budget films, both major and independent. She recently appeared in two back-to-back Sundance entries 'The Art of Getting By' and 'Celeste and Jesse Forever,' and is currently filming the indie comedy 'Adult World' with John Cusack.
