Welcome to the End Times, people. In a further attempt to resurrect absolutely anything from the 80s, former Disney CEO Michael Eisner and indie animator PES (real name Adam Pesapane) are teaming up to create a feature length film based on the kitschy line of collectible cards, 'The Garbage Pail Kids'. For those of you who are under 30, The Garbage Pail Kids were a line of parody cards mocking another 80s fad, The Cabbage Patch Kids. However, instead of cute, lemon-headed adoptable children, the Garbage Pail Kids were lewd and often raunchy pun-fueled versions such as "Adam Bomb", "Dee Faced", and "Phony Lisa". At the height of their "fame", they even spawned a 1987 live-action film starring MacKenzie Astin (from 'The Facts of Life'). If you're ever in dire need of some serious nightmare fuel, I highly recommend tracking it down on Netflix - it has some of the ookiest-looking puppets this side of 'Meet the Feebles'.
To be honest, are Garbage Pail Kids even still a thing? I realize that they hold a very particular place of nostalgia among people who were alive during the era, but I can't imagine them making a return to popularity any time soon. The added whammy of this project being the feature debut of both PES as a director and Eisner as a producer (through his post-Disney project, The Tornante Company) firmly places this film in the "not boding well" category. PES is best known for his stop-motion viral videos and ads, such as 'Roof Sex', 'Game Over', and 'Human Skateboard' (seen below):
Chime in, Spillios - is this something you'd be interested in, or is this just another cash grab tugging at the nostalgic heartstrings of our collective childhood?
