You highlighted the biggest problem I have with Abrams and all the support he receives well citing his real lack of experience when it comes to film-making. Aside from Star Trek, which visually one could say was a mess given the lens flare/shaky cam combo, he has a very short track record as a director, compared with his time as a producer.

Super 8 (which I haven't seen either) and Mission Impossible: III are the only other feature films he has directed, otherwise it's been limited work on TV (Felicity, Lost, Alias). That's what confuses me about the amount of hype he receives when his name is attached to generally ANY project, in the end he's only directed 3 films and had half a hand working on his various TV series (of which it seemed Lost and Felicity really lost their shit with in the end).

To hear about him doing Star Wars to me just seemed like a lazy decision. Peter Jackson would have been my choice given his work on Lord of the Rings which struck a balance between story, characters and visual effects (and reading the books after seeing the films I think he did a great job the way it was put together). I'm still wary on Star Wars VII. I really enjoyed Toy Story III of which Michal Arndt wrote, but he too seems rather inexperienced. Star Wars needs fresh blood, but I think it needs someone with a good understanding of the source material who isn't going to bring in radical changes to the canon (like with Star Trek 09's horribly designed Enterprise inside and out, Uhura/Spock relationship, etc.)

And I'm afraid The Fapper was right to do what he did, you are cute :)

To be fair, "twist endings that never answer any questions" was Writer Damon Lindelof's (Lost, Prometheus) forte.

Personally I think Abrams' is a better fit on Star Wars than Star Trek.
