For a while now we've been hearing rumblings that Edgar Wright ('Shaun of the Dead,' 'Scott Pilgrim vs. The World') would be throwing his hat into the spandex superhero ring by helming 'Ant-Man' for Marvel. While many of us were intrigued by this prospect, it had been quite a while since this news had broken and nothing appeared to be moving. Now it seems Wright has taken the first concrete steps toward making 'Ant-Man' a reality. He has just completed a test reel of footage of the hero. Ant-Man is scientist Dr. Hank Pym who discovered a way to alter his size and control armies of ants. He was also one of the founding members of The Avengers. Wright apparently co-wrote the script for 'Ant-Man' several years ago with Joe Cornish ('Attack the Block'). The test footage is meant to examine how Ant-Man's powers and the tone of the project will come across through the camera (i.e. on screen).
This is both exciting news and potentially another tremendous tease. We know 'Ant-Man' won't be Wright's next movie, as he is currently working on 'The World's End' with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Therefore, even though he's shot some footage, it could still be quite a while before we see 'Ant-Man.' He put the test reel together in under a week in mid-June? Hmm, think maybe Comic-Con might have been a motivation? Perhaps Marvel is planning to use this reel to test fan reaction at Con before moving forward again with the film. Or, perhaps they are putting together a stinger to follow a bigger upcoming Marvel hero release and further tease us with 'Ant-Man.' Given that this project has been in the works since the mid-2000s, I guess what I'm saying is I'll believe it when I see it.
What do you guys think? Does the shooting of this test footage mean Marvel is definitely moving forward with 'Ant-Man?' Will we ever see this movie?

Comment by RunPower on July 3, 2012 at 3:22am I'd rather see a Black Panther or a Heroes for Hire movie (Luke Cage and Iron Fist) than Antman. Pym is such an uninteresting character. A dude with inadequacy issues...really?
Comment by kwame digital on July 2, 2012 at 7:05pm Yea i know he's a ass hole or a bitch (yes both extremes of the word). But he is a member of the Avengers we don't see people calling for Stark being excluded becuase his a alcohalic. Yea F%CK Ant man but he is an Avenger.

Thats exactly why he matters, Ultron would be awesome on screen so if there really doing this Avengers 2 thing with Pym in it we can expect Ultrn to be a major villian in either the Avengers 3 or a future Ant-man movie. Plus you need Ultron to create Vision. So no Ant-man equals no Ultron which equals no Vision. Oh and Ant-man may be a joke but Yellow Jacket is no luaghing matter.
Comment by nerdilicouse?! on July 2, 2012 at 8:14am WHY would Ant Man matter? Pym is a weak willed hero at any rate, the only thing good about Pym is he KEEPS building world destroying robots so the avengers have someone to fight
Comment by B.Bally on July 1, 2012 at 8:05pm The problem is that Ant Man works better as a supporting character than a star of his own movie
Comment by Richard Dempsey on July 1, 2012 at 8:58am Is this what this phase is gonna be called? "Post-avengers" as in The Avengers was The golden age. In a way it was, but come on, we still have Dark Knight Rises to come. So how about "Post-A, Pre-B"?
Comment by The Hawk on July 1, 2012 at 3:29am I don't know what is with all this hate for Ant-Man. BRING ON DR. PYM!!!
