Eddie Murphy to Star As Richard Pryor in Biopic

The great people over at First Showing report that Eddie Murphy will star as Richard Pryor in an upcoming Pryor biopic called Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said?
The film will be directed by Dreamgirls helmer Bill Condon, who also wrote the script.
Although the film currently has no backers, it’s also reported that Fox Searchlight is interested in the project.

I got the same feeling when Will Smith played Muhammad Ali, at no point did I think, "oh look its Ali!" but all I was thinking was "Will Smith in pumped!".
You just cant separate these kind of high profile actors with ever character they play, maybe its just me ?

I could see it working, gives him a good Blend of comedy and seriousness, I wonder if he'll play himself in the movie too, since they Pryor and Murphy were in Harlem Nights together. I could see that working actually.

If they can get the same acting out of Eddie that they did in Dreamgirls then the Pryor movie should be good. =)

Good. I hope he doesn't act badly like in *shudder* Norbit! But I'm glad it's directed by Bill Condon, and again, he's hiring Eddie Murphy. Thank God!
