'Dumb & Dumber' Sequel To Begin Shooting In September

I somehow missed the news a few months back that the Peter and Bobby Farrelly were planning on doing a sequel to 1994's 'Dumb & Dumber.' Perhaps I did hear it, and just utterly repressed it. However much to everyone's surprise, it seems the followup to the no-brainer road comedy starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels is not only a possibility, it's an imminent reality. The script, by Sean Anders and John Morris (two of the writers on 'Hot Tub Time Machine'), is apparently locked and load. Then, during a junket for their upcoming film 'The Three Stooges,' the brothers Farrelly let this little nugget slip...

"We're getting set to shoot 'Dumb and Dumber 2' in September. It's the first sequel we've ever done and we've got Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels back."

So not only is this really happening, and soon, but somehow they were able to convince both Carrey and Daniels to return for the sequel. You may recall that a second feature, 'Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd,' was produced in 2003, but that was actually a prequel and the Farrelly Brothers were not involved. In fact, they were quite adamant about divorcing themselves from that film...

"We did not do 'Dumb and Dumberer.' That was a studio thing. So we've always wanted to do a sequel and finally Jim called up. Jeff always wanted to do it. We always wanted to do it. Jim was busy, but he called and said, 'We've got to do this thing again.' He had just watched 'Dumb and Dumber' and he said, 'This is the perfect sequel. Let's do it.'"

I'm not going to lie, there were a few moments of the first film that I really enjoyed, of course I saw it when I was twelve so I may have fallen neatly into the film's target demographic. Yet I'm scratching my head trying to understand the supposed demand for a sequel and why the leads are so anxious to reprise their doltish roles. Jim Carrey, apart from a few stinkers of late, hardly seems like he needs to slum it by appearing in an ill-advised sequel and Jeff Daniels is starring in a new Aaron Sorkin TV series for crying out loud!

What do you guys think? Are you at all interested in a 'Dumb & Dumber' sequel?

All about the money and nothing else. We'll be lucky if it's half as funny as the original.

Quit making sequels, dipshits.

They're middle age, why would this be made

I loved the first movie.  If it is half as good as the first one, it should be the best film of the year.

Why do they have to announce films before they are in development?

I loved the first movie, but I'm very hesitant at the thought of a sequel. The actors are much older now, the Farrelly brothers haven't made a good film in a long long time, and the writers of Hot Tub Time Machine?? There's an unedited version of Dumb and Dumber that really shows you how just a few extended scenes can destroy a movie and all its jokes. I really hope they pull it off but the cards are not in their favor. Maybe it would've worked 10+ years ago.

It was quite horrible. But maybe I was just too young to appreciate it's humor.
I don't know... and am not really that interested in proving me wrong on that.
