So I saw Doubt today and boy this was some...amazing film making! The movie is set in the 1960's and centers around a nun who believes the priest "molested" a child. Sister Aloysius (Meryl Streep) and Sister James (Amy Adams) play the two nuns suspicious of Father Flynn (Philip Seymour Hoffman). The biggest strength to the movie is the acting. This is hands down one of the best acted films of the year. Meryl Streep transforms herself from a dancing queen to an evil nun this year. By far she is better in Doubt. I almost wanted to stand up and applaud at random lines she spoke during the movie. She isn't a joy to watch, but she is so powerful that you can't look away. I was afraid to look at my text message during the movie since I thought she would look at me and tell me to stop. Her entrance in the movie is harshly hushing kids during church. Her first line "Straighten!" tells you right from the beginning how mean this lady really is. Philip Seymour Hoffman pulls off an incredible performance leaving you still suspicious of what he
really did. Amy Adams has such an innocent personality that is showing so cutely by her young face. Her changes during the movie are portrayed so well that I believe she deserves the Oscar nomination. The Oscar for supporting actress needs to go to the woman playing Mrs. Miller (Viola Davis). Oh my God what a performance from this girl. Even with her short screen time, you still feel for her and cry for her. The story is written well and I was never ever bored during the movie. The direction is very well for a (what I believe) first time film director. The weakest point for a lot of people would be the ending since there is no real truth but I loved it. Overall I found this movie to be one of the best of the year. This is definitely in my Top 10. I smell serious Oscar buzz for this film. It's not quite better than sex, but it is a very high
