MTV got a chance to chat with I Am Number Four director D.J. Caruso, who talked with the network about his developing Electronic Arts video game adaptation Dead Space. The project has been on again, off again for a while now (which led the filmmaker to take on Number Four), but he claims that there are some positive updates. Read on:

"The cool thing about 'Dead Space' is we've had a few offers to set it up. Once I started ('I Am Number Four') and (producer) Wyck Godfrey and all those other guys got really busy on the 'Twilight' movies because they're kicking butt over there, so we're gonna get back and talk about it ) once everyone's time frees up)", said Caruso.

He went on to talk about the development of the project, mentioning that it will be a prequel - of sorts- to the best-selling game: "We've tried to crack the story a few different ways, so I know when we get back we're going to get into it and I feel like we'll have a screenplay in a few months. It'll hopefully be ready to go," and added, "It's one of those things where the storytelling of it and trying to get into the prequel [is a challenge]... You have have the whole sort of brainwash-y/Scientology thing and ultimately the Necromorphs."

Caruso's next film, I Am Number Four, is scheduled to hit theaters in February 2011.

Why does Hollywood insist on fucking up great games. It's going to be the same as Resident Evil. I bet they cast Shia Labouf as Issac Clark. -FAIL-

Hmm... I've never seen any movies by this guy, however hope it'll turn out good, Dead Space really is a kickass game!

I'd feel much better about this if it wasn't in the hands of the guy who brought us mediocre hits like Eagle Eye and Disturbia.

@ Don Panini, you know what's funny? When I saw the picture of Caruso I immediately thought "Isaac."

What's the point of taking a property that isn't easily translated into film; yet stray away from the source material while still keeping the name of the property? Oh yeah, ticket sales.

Greed.

I'll take pretentious directors for 800, Alex.

Cool, have David Caruso as Isaac.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

FUCK OFF CARUSO!

Video games never work as movies because they require a first-person experience into a fantasy world. When you take away the interactivity aspect of a video game, then the experience becomes a hollow one.

If Steven Spielberg is involved in this production with Caruso, chances are that Shia LaBeouf will have role in the film and will be hearing: NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!

I'm crossing my fingers for this film, I'm intrigued. POP: Sands of Time was decent but I'm hoping for Dead Space.
