Variety is reporting that Disney is planning on going back to high school with their next Disney Channel project called Prom. It is pitched as a teen comedy in the same vein of humor of a John Hughes or Cameron Crowe film. Naturally, the plot of the project involves high school teens preparing for the big dance.

Thankfully, the project is not slated to be a musical. However, Disney Studios has yet to give the project the go-ahead. Their reason? They want to make sure that Prom has the same franchise-launching effect as High School Musical, complete with making new teen icons out of fresh-faced unknown actors. In other words, Disney wants to see if they can capture that legendary “Lightning in a Bottle.”

The article also reports that a High School Musical 4 is being produced. At this point, Disney should just stop making anything related to that franchise. That demographic is the same one that help propel Miley Cyrus and Hannah Montana to the top, and even she knows that her old fan base is growing up and out of that franchise.

Oh god...not ANOTHER Disney teen project. It amazes me how even regular teens in high school (my 14 year old daughter included) can'nt stand this form of genre. The only ones that seem intrested in it are Elementary School kids who have no idea of the realities of what lies ahead for them academically and socially.Bring back the seies "Freaks and Geeks"....at least that was a noteworthy show worth watching.
