Disney Pursuing Two More Writers For New 'Star Wars' Franchise

Recently, Michael Arndt ('Toy Story 3') was hired by Disney to pen the script for their new 'Star Wars' film. However, as the recently formed union between Disney and Lucasfilm has made very clear, there will not be just one new movie. At the very least, we'll be getting a new trilogy, and the question as to whether Arndt was intended to write all three movies of that new trilogy appears to have been answered. Disney is reportedly courting Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg to write the next installments. 'Star Wars' fans should be well acquainted with the name Lawrence Kasdan, as he wrote both 'The Empire Strikes Back' and 'Return of the Jedi.' He also wrote 'Raiders of the Lost Ark.' Kinberg's resume boasts the likes of 'X-Men: First Class,' 'Sherlock Holmes,' and 2014's 'X-Men: Days of Future Past.' It should be noted that no official deal is on the table.

This is great news. While I can't say I'm at all disappointed that George Lucas will not be heavily involved in the new trilogy, to completely sever ties with the tradition of this iconic franchise would be unwise. While we all have our favorites among the original trilogy, more often than not it seems the debate comes down to 'Empire' or 'Jedi.' Having the writer of those two films on board would be a major boost for the new series. As to Kinberg, he has his own experience working within franchises with having written two X-Men films and one of the Sherlock Holmes movies. I have no doubt that he'll be an asset as well. Of course, all of this writer news is well and good, but when will Disney finally give us some clue as to who is directing at least the first new film? So far, the only indications we've been given involve struck down rumors from directors who were thought to be in the running. It's going to take a healthy collaborative effort between the writer and director if there is to be any hope of recapturing the magic of those first three films.

What do you guys think? Excited Kasdan may be returning to 'Star Wars?' Will Kinberg make suitable addition?

OH GOD NO!!!!!! PLEASE NOOOOOOOOO!!! Kasdan couldn't write to save his life. He lost any writing abilities over two decades ago. This is dreadful news!! He wrote and directed Darling Companion for god sakes. The most cliche ridden, predictable, stupid and pointless movie ever. He wrote, produced, and directed Dreamcatcher, Wyatt Earp, French Kiss, and Mumford. All terrible sloppy atrocities. Kasdan used to be a great writer, but has lost his touch and is way beyond his time. Don't even get me started on this lousy pathetic excuse for a writer, Simon Kinberg, He was a script doctor for Fantastic Four , Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, and Knight and Day. He wrote and produced Jumper which tops Darling Companion for the stupidist movie ever. All that makes me want to do is jump off a building, or surgically remove the terrible writing that is scarred into my brain. Once someone rapes the X-Men trilogy after Brian Singer made two great movies, it's time for them to go, Brett Ratner shouldn't get all the blame. Even Zues couldn't direct a good movie with a screenplay that abominable. I think Kinberg intentionally ruined the X-Men trilogy. What was the point of making Magneto an a*shole? Mr. and Ms. Smith was pretty vomit-retching. That so called screenwriting creature should not get any credit for the solid awesome movie that was X-Men: First Class. He didn't write a single letter of that script and thank god he didn't. All he did was be one of FOUR producers. If anything, he probably made it worse. I was excited for these sequels, but there's no hope now, Star Wars is being raped again. Please, anything but this, bring on George Lucas again, anything, PLEASE NOOOO!!!!!

The idea of bringing Lawrence Kasdan back for the new Star Wars trilogy is a smart move. Simon Kinberg I'm not sure but I'll remain optimistic.
