The Hollywood Reporter says that Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media have confirmed that for budgetary and logistical reasons the Burbank-based studio is not exercising its option to co-produce and co-finance The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader with Walden.

The third installment in the Narnia series was in preproduction; set for a spring shoot and a planned May 2010 release. The development also puts the participation of the talent attached in doubt, adds the trade. Michael Apted was on board to direct the script by Steven Knight. The key players of the second installment, "Prince Caspian" -- Ben Barnes, Georgie Henley, William Moseley and Anna Popplewell -- were set to return for the third film.

Walden has a strong relationship with the Lewis estate and will shop "Treader" in hopes of finding a new partner. The most likely candidate at this stage is Fox, which markets and distributes Walden fare under the Fox Walden banner.

Any partnership on a "Narnia" movie will require a substantial investment. "Caspian," which filmed in the Czech Republic, Mexico and New Zealand, cost $200 million. The first film, "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," was shot mostly in New Zealand for $180 million.

Oh man. Voyage of the Dawn Treader is epic. Epic, EPIC, EPIC!

I'm not talking about the stupid gamer WoW "wooo epic win" nonsense, I man ACTUALLY EPIC, in the literary sense. It's the epitome of an adventure. Whoever ends up making the movie better do an incredible job with it, or their nuts will become my supper.

Fox's only film this whole year thats reach 100 million dollars and has a positive review percentage from Rotten Tomatoes is Horton Hears a Who. Fox is going to screw it up, which is a shame, bcuz I liked the last one, not so much for the 1st.

Oh yeah, go with Fox, because they haven't screwed almost every movie they have released this last couple of years.

I just hope to god its better than that yawn fest known as 2005's The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe. But, I did like the second one a lot more. So, I'll give it a shot.

aww . . . even if you didn't like them, they were great flicks for kids, and its sad that there may not be another.

The first one was good. But I didn't like the second one. It was like too many ideas were taken from Lord of the Rings - such as the attacking trees and the seige of the towering hill. Eventhough, I know that C.S. Lewis and JRR were both friends and probably bounced ideas off each other all the time.

Wow, I guess commitment isn't one of Disney's strong suits. And I actually wanted to see a third movie. I at least hope that the franchise's future doesn't fall into the hands of those greedy bastards at Fox (until the Watchmen case is settled, I will NEVER pass up an opportunity to bash them). Then again, considering that every Fox Walden project has been a box office bomb (Nim's Island was the only one to make back its production budget-barely), maybe they won't bite.
Perhaps Universal? They're a pretty nice studio, and desperate enough to want to get their hands on a big fantasy franchise like this.
