Diablo Cody Pens 'Evil Dead', Goyer Tackles 'Godzilla'

Source: Deadline

Fresh off the announcement yesterday that the 'Evil Dead' franchise will be getting a soft-reboot, there was a small tidbit of information that may have flown under the radar. Writer and pop culture celeb Diablo Cody ('Juno', 'Jennifer's Body') has been brought on to polish the script for the upcoming slapstick horror film. While 'Jennifer's Body' may have tanked at the box office (presumably since you never actually got to see the body in question), Cody has tackled a variety of genres in her short career and is probably a good pick for a film that has to walk the fine line between horror-action, and goofy comedy.

Elsewhere, 'The Dark Knight' and 'Man of Steel' scribe David S. Goyer has signed on to pen the script for another iconic character: Godzilla. Legendary Pictures is bring the atomic lizard back to the big screen with 'Monsters' director Gareth Edwards at the helm, and Goyer will be responsible for adapting the nearly 60-year old franchise for modern American audiences while still presenting the story and characters in "the most authentic manner possible". After the rousing disappointment with the last attempt - 1998's 'Godzilla' starring Matthew Broderick and some kind of mutant iguana dragon raptor - it will be interesting to see how they approach the character this time around.

It was shown at last years Comic Con by Legendary. Speaking as a major fan of Godzilla, I did enjoy the 98 film, but to hear David talking about Godzilla as a CHARACTER and not a monster or creature could not make me any happier. This is my most anticipated in production film. I. CAN. NOT. WAIT!

I recently saw the 1950's Japan Godzilla. The movie still holds up. It's very poetic and it doesn't hit you over the head with its message. And with the nuclear disaster it's even more pertinent.

Evil Dead - YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Diablo Cody is probably the best writer for this. Say what you want about Jennifer's body, it had a pretty good script when it came out, just poorly directed. She is perfect for the job. GOOD FIND SAM RAMI!

Godzilla - Why can't we just stick to the original 1954 version that was not only entertaining but was very symbolic of Japan itself? . . . all well, more fish to go around!
