Fouapa, your french friend here. It's been a long time again since I posed anything, so here is something a little different.
Having recently bought the game Dead Space and played a few hours into it, I thought I could give a shot to this movie. Just a quick note: if you own a next gen console or a powerful PC and haven't purchased that amazing game yet, do so it's brilliant.
For those of you who know nothing about the Dead Space universe, here is a little catch up. It's set up in the future and centers around a grimmy spaceship, the USG Ishimura, floating around a planet that is more or less a dead rock with a tiny mining colony on it. In the game, you're sent to the Ishimura to respond to a distress call, soon to discover that the ship is filled with hostile and gruesome creatures appearing to be mutations from crew members. As you progress into the game you'll hack your way into more details on what the hell happened.
The animated movie however is set a few months before the game and explains more about how things fucked up. And that, I must say, is the main flaw: it tells too much about the plot of the game and might ruin major bits for someone who hasen't played enough.
That being said, man what a ride! Storywise, it's borderline ridiculous but what did it for me was it's plain violence and the quality of its animation. I won't even go into explaining the plot, because it doesn't really matters and it holds no surprise to someone who's watched any sci-fi horror movie before.
Limbs are hacked off, jawbones fly into the air and bowels are spead on the cold metal floor...what else do you need? Scares? Damn right, you'll get your fair share of jumps and teeth grinding. The direction is also a bit off but the fight scenes have such a cool factor to them that it's hard not to enjoy the movie.
So, if you're a fan of gore flicks and animated movies, this one is definitely worth a shot! Plus, if you've played the game, you'll enjoy seeing some scenes you witnessed as video recordings during your exploration.
I've noticed some people who seriously want to contribute into making a Spill movie, or at least a Spill fan film. This group is to discuss things like writing, production, etc... You guys have a crack at it, I'll just moderate. Have Fun!
