Well what do ya know, a news story involving Dan Aykroyd having nothing to do with 'Ghostbusters 3!' Aykroyd has signed on to costar in director Jay Roach's new political comedy 'Dog Fight.' Aykroyd will be joined by Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis who star as rival North Carolina politicians. 'Dogfight' was written by 'Eastbound & Down's Shawn Harwell marking his first crack at penning a feature film. Nothing too specific has been revealed about Aykroyd's character, but I'm thinking maybe a blustering, long-term senator backing one of the two squabbling politicos? The film is set for an August 10, 2012 release.
This piece of news is a mixed bag of promise and potential disaster. On the one hand, I really like the idea of casting Zach Galifianakis, Will Ferrell, and Dan Aykroyd in a comedy together; somewhat representing three different comedies classes. Even though they are relatively close in age, Galifianakis and Ferrell hit their career strides in decidedly different years. It would therefore be interesting to see how they work together and how they interact with the legendary Aykroyd. However, the inclusion of Jay Roach into the equation is cause for alarm. The nicest way I can phrase this is that I am simply not a fan of Jay Roach. The first Austin Powers movie was passable, aided in no small part by its unfettered nostalgia, but the sequels, especially 'Goldmember,' were piss poor. On top of that, he gave us 'Meet the Parents,' 'Meet the Fockers,' and 'Dinner for Schmucks.' I only hope he is able to do something a bit more worthwhile with this comedy trio.
Am I alone on this? Are there any die hard Roach fans that want to make a case? Are you excited for this film?

Comment by Boatloads1017 on December 29, 2011 at 12:48am It's hard to believe the director of the Meet the Parents and Austin Powers trilogy did Recount (about the 2000 election) and the new Game Change (about the 2008 election) for HBO. His best movies are on TV. What's that about?
Comment by DarkProphet94 on December 28, 2011 at 9:21pm if Jay Roach had filmed Bill Murray shredding the Ghostbusters 3 script, it wouldve been fifty times better than his last few films
Comment by Marc on December 28, 2011 at 8:45pm If you're looking for a good Jay Roach film, watch Recount.
Comment by Jockerlee77 on December 28, 2011 at 6:39pm Bill Murray is the hart and sole of Ghost-buster and i believe that why it will never happen but then again i could be worng
Yeah I hated Meet the parents, meet the fuckers, oh and I watched 5 min of dinner for schmucks then proceeded to go on a rage induced killing spree, which I got away with thankfully. I would have hopes for such comedy talent but since numbnuts jay roach is behind the reigns I think a collossel crapfest is on its way down the poopshoot. And Aykroyd passing on Ghostbusters 3? Hasnt he been talking about since forever? WTF?wtfwtfwtfwtfwtfwtfwtf? Didnt Bill Murray already pass that project(pretty sure i heard that, not100%tho)? Without either one of those guys Ghostbusters isnt the same. So......FUCK! But for dog fight, hopefully roach has less control with talent such as ferrell and aykroyd on board.
Comment by NoMoreHeroesfan12 on December 28, 2011 at 6:21pm Man fuck you! Meet The Parents was really good! Yeah, but everything else sucked ass......well dinner for schmuks was also ok.....idk this seems good.
Comment by Jockerlee77 on December 28, 2011 at 5:26pm what the hell is going on with ghost-busters 3? for a man who claim he want to make another one his hart don't sound like he into it
Comment by Cman5000 on December 28, 2011 at 4:53pm I could literally, not give less of a shit about this movie. every time comedians try to do politics it fails. in the end the comedy ends up being used for whatever message there trying to get across and it ends up just not being funny. W. is a good example of that. if you want to make a political movie don't use comedy and visa-verse. they should stay separate.
Comment by The Dogwelder on December 28, 2011 at 4:44pm The first and last 15 minutes of dinner for schmucks was pretty good.
