Crossbones To Appear In 'Captain America: Winter Soldier?'

The online rumor mill churns at full speed today. As Joe and Anthony Russo continue to put together a cast ahead of the spring 2013 start date for their 'Captain America: Winter Soldier,' some interesting developments have come to light. It seems actor Frank Grillo ('Warrior,' 'The Grey') is in the running to play Crossbones in the upcoming Marvel sequel. Crossbones is a ruthless assassin, a mercenary who often worked for Cap's arch enemy The Red Skull. It seems that over the weekend comedian and talk radio host Matthew Aaron tweeted that Grillo was "this close to getting the role of crossbones." This rumor was further fed by a tweet yesterday from Grillo himself...

"See Ya LA. It was a a good trip. Marvel was a lot of fun. Be cool if it works out. #CaptainAmerica."

The tweet has since been deleted, but it was enough to work the web into a frenzy. While Crossbones wasn't part of the original Winter Soldier story arc, or at least the initial arc ended before he showed up, he is an important character to later chapters of the tale. If nothing else, Crossbones carried out the assassination of Steve Rogersso his proposed involvement in this sequel is more than a little intriguing. Obviously there is a serious grain of salt with which we must digest this news tidbit. It could be nothing more than a joke, especially considering the fact that one of the sources is the host of a comedy talk radio show. But even if it's not a giant ruse, just because Grillo took the meeting does not necessarily mean he's definitely getting the part. I like Grillo as an actor, but can't say I know enough about the character to decide if he's the right fit.

What do you guys think? Does this smell fishy to you or do you think Grillo might actually get the part? Is he right for Crossbones?

DONT KNOW HIM

I don't think Crossbones is known well enough to make a big impact in the sequel. I just hope they don't cram so many villians into the sequel after all Captain America is just one guy with a boomerage shield and superstregth with accelerated regerantion. compared to the other avengers he is pretty weak. But I know the movie will be great whatever they decide to do.

She got wounded and became the new red skull
Johann was normal with a mask, until he died and came back in a clone of steve.
Due to an accident caused by his own attempt to kill steve, his face got fucked up and scarred.
He then appeared to die, but infact got trapped in his nightmare world where he's a bellhop for non european immigrants(because comics).
He got out by becoming a reality warper due to the cosmic cube. He was basically normal again, then winter soldier tried to kill him.
Due to the cosmic cubes power, which johann was handling when he died, he was able to transfer his mind into the body of his enemy(aleksander lukin) that sent the winter soldier after him. But the catch was, both men(Johann and Alek) have to share the body(again, because comics).
Johann finally ended up taking over the body of a speciality built robot and getting blown to shit and now he's back in uncanny avengers.

There's two other red skulls, the first worked for johann and was the first red skull to appear in comic. The second was the killer of peter parker's parents.

You are right about ultimate comics red skull.
The whole sweet and sour body thing is movie only.

Arsene, what happened to the daughter? Also let me get a few things straight:

Original Red Skull was a German guy who underwent the same procedure as Cap except before but for some reason it made his whole body look like sweet and sour chicken right?

Retconned Red Skull is the head of the regular Red Skull on a cloned Captain America boy right?

Ultimate Red Skull is Captain America's son from 1940-something all grown up who literally cut the skin off his face and tattooed an iron cross on his exposed flesh right?

Can anyone confirm or correct any of that? I get confused by a lot of make believe stuff!

The guy who killed cap and is the lover of red skull's (use to be hot) daughter 'Sin' in burbakers run roboto. also I want to see taskmaster just because he trained crossbones in comics.

Who?

Grillo also had a supporting role in Warrior, training Joel Edgerton. That, along with The Grey, proved he can act, and he seems to look the part. It'd be cool if he got a higher profile role like this.
