I thought that Crazy, Stupid, Love was without a doubt an extremely funny and surprisingly touching and heartwarming dramedy.

 

I give it a Full Price!!

I agree the film certainly had problems, and some of the problems you guys had with it I had too (Emma Stone's character) but I also thought the movie took things in interesting directions, and that 5 minute weird reunion/brawl at the house was so crazy it was awesome. Although Kevin Bacon showing up right then strained credulity.

    But overall I thought it was a surprising and enjoyable film, albeit with some serious flaws that stopped it from being great.

 

And was it just me, or was the the babysitter giving the nude photos to a 13 YEAR OLD a little on the creepy side?

I actually enjoyed this movie a lot, my wife did also.  Even the audience seemed to as well in my screening at least.  And this was at one of the smaller, indie/art theaters in my town, not the mega-plex.  While I do agree that the characters were a bit overpopulated, and a few of the "character collision" set pieces were somewhat forced, I felt that almost all of them rang true on some level.  Steve Carrell's performance at times was really heartbreaking in his lonely scenes, and even more so in the ones with Julianne Moore. 

 

The main target of this movie was of course veterans of long-term relationships, and I think it is most relatable for us.  There is always that unspoken fear that the one you've come to rely on for years could just change their mind and leave you.  So for some of us, this is practically a horror movie.  As for as the younger characters, the chain of unrequited love was a bit convenient in terms of a realistic story, but still very relatable.  I think we have all had crushes with absolutely no hope of being realized, but carried them anyhow, just not so publicly!

 

I also liked Gosling's hipster character, his motive for helping Carrell to the extent he does took a bit of a leap for me, but once I went with it, the scenes were quite funny.  There was an audible gasp and even a small round of applause in my theater when he removed his shirt in that one scene with Emma Stone.  So I couldn't help but call out with a Riley Freeman-esque "boo" for my fellow less-than-perfect guys sitting in there.  My obvious sour grapes got a huge laugh from everyone!  Wait that didn't sound right.... pause!

 

Anyway, I think this film has more to say to some audience members depending on where they are in their own relationships.  I think the comparison to Love, Actually is very accurate.  Much like that, CSL is not perfect, sometimes disjointed, but from scene to scene quite entertaining, gut-wrenching, and often very funny.

I saw this last night and It was like 40 year old virgin and Love Actually mixed together. I was actually really good. I went in expecting a rental at best it was definitely a High Matinee -Middle Full Price film. The acting was FANTASTIC,  the character development was there, and I know this is going to sound sooo cheesy, but as a person in love, it was really touching.  I would have like to see more Emma Stone subplot and probably less Jessica the Babysitter. I however though Annaleigh Tipton did great as the baby sitter considering she stared as a model on Americas next top model. And girl would really enjoy this, a guy that doesn't have a frozen heart may really enjoy this as well. :-D
