According to a recent interview with MTV about his latest film "The Secret Lives of Pippa Lee", Keanu Reeves admits that the current script for the
upcoming live-action adaptation of the anime "Cowboy Bebop" is "too expensive to make:
"So the studio went, 'This movie is fantastic and it would cost half a billion dollars," laughed Reeves, "so he's doing a rewrite."
As far as who'll be appearing in the film, Reeves hinted that everyone from Spike to Ein could factor into the movie's storyline.
"Everyone is in there," said Reeves.
"The only challenge was to make a satisfying western narrative out of the kind of storytelling that happens," he added. "There's a great draft, so we're just trying to pull it back a little bit now.
A lot of adaptations have been straight up garbage lately, but ever since news broke Reeves traveled to Japan to assure the animation studio behind Bebop, Sunrise, that this will be a proper representation of the iconic series, I've had a bit more faith in this movie turning out better than expected. Reeves himself is a fan of Cowboy Bebop, and after they do draft a less expensive script, lets hope that they pick an impressive cast (a la Star Trek) and a motivated and visionary director.
Regardless we won't be seeing this movie for a while. Let's hope they take their time with it.
