Could We See Harrison Ford Return As Han Solo In 2015?

In the wake of Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm, and the announcement of a new 'Star Wars' film due to arrive in 2015, the wheels of speculation have been churning full steam online as to what the new film may be and who might direct it. With the flurry or rumors it's hard to know what's actually on the table and what is simply wishful thinking. If today's news is anything but certainty, my day is ruined. It appears Harrison Ford, Han Solo himself, is quite keen on the idea to return to the 'Star Wars' franchise. According to a source close to the actor, Ford is all for playing Solo again, even being described as being "upbeat about it." This is surprising considering how open Ford has been regarding his less-than-enthusiastic feelings toward his legendary role and the original trilogy altogether. The source goes on to say that Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisherare all onboard to return. Now we just need to get that pesky script finished and a director in place.

This is one of those moments when fanboy mentality will completely take over my brain, and I openly admit that. 'Star Wars' is such a huge part of my life and the idea of seeing Han Solo again on the big screen completely supersedes all obvious concerns about Ford's age and how it may hamper his ability to play the character again. The difference, I feel between his returning to Han and his return to Indiana Jones is that he won't likely be the central focus of the new 'Star Wars'film so the burden of carrying the action sequences won't rest entirely on his shoulders. In other words, there are plenty of other characters we care about in this universe, and so many rich opportunities for advanced storylines, that older Solo can be the elder statesman of the new republic, still be a badass, and not have to be written in to as many age-inappropriate stunts.

Plus, you know, Han goddamn Solo! It would be a chance for me to see a cinematic Han Solo adventure released in my lifetime. Is that an entirely selfish motive that can't be defended in terms of whether it's actually good for the new franchise? Absolutely. I'm just being honest. And further the idea of Han, Luke, and Leiaall returning has me ecstatic. However, before we start lining up to purchase the limited edition Old Han action figure, it should be mentioned that this could all still fall apart depending on schedules, contracts, and/or whether Ford approves of the eventual script and director choice. Ok fellow geeks, what do you guys think?

Why would Ford be interested in returning after so many years of apparent disdain for the character? Should we be excited at the prospect of his return or are we being biased by our fandom? How could older Solo work into the new 'Star Wars'universe?

There was a trilogy set of books following vi. They're all about luke rebuilding the jedi order with no prior knowledge of what it once was. Han runs errands for the new order and leia taking over mon mantha. It also introduces a few new characters including the solo's kids and best of all a new 'ani' a kid who was taught the force by a jedi (who escaped the jedi execution) and Han finds him by accident and he becomes what vader should have been.

It'd be cool to see how they handle the remains of the empire. Such a large army but their two leaders die and everyone runs away? unlikely.

I don't think they could use the old cast though, even in books luke dies early on.

but that would mean Carrie Fisher would come back.. and... yeah.......

If this were to happen, you would think that considering their age they would have to resign Ford, Fisher and Hamill to minor roles. That's not such a bad thing though, the prequels really suffered from that disconnect because they didn't have those familiar characters, or characters of the same calibre and charisma. If those three came back it would add a great bit of credibility to however many films are produced. Then the task if finding the right people to cast as Jacen, Jaina and Anakin Solo, and Ben Skywalker if they decide to go down that road (I think they would).

IF they are going to make more Star Wars movies, they need to just abandon the idea of bringing back the original cast. Those films were shot some 30+ years ago, those actors are totally different now.

Set it in the same universe, but create a new story, new cast, new possibilities. I really don't want to see Han Solo pause in the middle of a lazer fight so he can take is cholesterol and diabetes medications.

I'd LOVE to see all those main characters come back! I think it would be more realistic for younger actors to do the heavy lifting as far as action and being the focus of the story while using these older classic characters in supporting roles. Bring the franchise back up to an adult level.

It would give me a reason to go back to the theater to see STAR WARS again. And no more of those cutsie joke characters like Eewoks and J.J. Binks!

I would love to see kyle katarn story although that would be either too good to be true or a "it departed from the original!" /whine type of event, it would even make sense to have some luke cameo though lia and han arne't in the game...

It's cool that the original cast wants to come back, but I kind of want to see Disney take the film in a whole new direction, a whole new story and characters. Maybe it'll just be a cameo but I feel like they should expand more with the universe since there are a lot of possibilities what they could do.

Sorry, all these fat comments about vader and lea are making me crack up...I guess underneath all that machinery Aniken is really a Dark "Lard" of the Sith.
