Rumor, rumor, who's heard a rumor? When it comes to the future of Marvel, and what we can expect from the superhero dream factory's films going forward, the sheer excitement they've instilled in us over the last few years has lead to a dramatic upswing in those rumors. A really juicy one circulating at the moment involves 'The Avengers' own big green monster. If these Hulk rumors are true, the following information constitutes major spoilers for not only the next Hulk standalone film, but also the next 'Avengers' as well. According to Latino Review's Marvel source, the next individual Hulk movie will not occur until after 'The Avengers 2.' In the team-up sequel, The Hulk, still played by Mark Ruffalo, will cause more damage than the other heroes think is appropriate for him to remain on Earth. The ending of the film will therefore feature his being blasted into space, which will result in a Phase 3 'Planet Hulk' movie. According to this 2006 storyline, written by Greg Pak, the other heroes send Hulk to another planet whereon he lives as a gladiator and plots his return to Earth to have his revenge. It should be stressed that none of this information has been confirmed by the studio.
Once again, this should in no way be taken as gospel, and it is very possible that the 'Planet Hulk' movie will not materialize. However, even in terms of a hypothetical, this makes for interesting discussion. I would love to see a live-action 'Planet Hulk.' That story effectively communicates the complicated relationship that exists not only between The Hulk and the rest of Earth's heroes, but between the Hulk and the Earth itself. I think Joss Whedon did a great job in 'The Avengers' of selling the idea that The Hulk can be utilized for incredible feats of heroism, but that he also poses a significant threat to himself and civilization. My disappointment here is that we purportedly have to wait until Phase 3 to see the new Hulk standalone. If you recall, it was reported quite some time ago that Marvel had optioned Ruffalo for six total Hulk movies. It therefore seemed a cinch that we would get at least one of those before 'Avengers 2.' I am chomping at the bit to see a new film with the big guy, especially after Ruffalo's outstanding performance in the role, and while I understand the necessity for 'The Avengers 2' to precede a 'Planet Hulk' movie, one wonders why Marvel would not delve into another Hulk arc in a film prior to that.
What do you guys think? Would you be interested in a 'Planet Hulk' movie? Who should direct it? Would it disappoint you to have to wait until after 'Avengers 2' for a new Hulk standalone?

Comment by Majin B-mag on February 5, 2013 at 3:02pm PLANET HULK & WORLD WAR HULK ARE FUCKING AWESOME!
It would be a dream come true if this was true.
Comment by Pumooo on February 5, 2013 at 2:53pm I loved the Planet Hulk and subsequent World War Hulk storyline, but I doubt that Planet Hulk will be success... for the average movie-goer, this movie would seem like an odd mix of Hulk and John Carter of Mars...
After the last failed Hulk film and the slightly-less-failed-but-still-low-on-the-earnings-poll Hulk film, the last thing anyone thinks the Hulk can do is headline another movie without something big happening first. So you put him in another Avengers movie to build up his popularity again and then attempt to resell him to the public in what's arguably the most successful Hulk storyline since his origin or maybe "Gray Hulk". It makes sense...
What maybe doesn't make sense is the whole "shoot the hulk to another planet" idea. I've never been able to agree with the way he ends up on another planet mostly because it would take forever to get to one and because it would be easier to just induce a medical coma on Banner and just keep him drugged until he dies of old age. Give me another explaination of his travel to another planet and why he ends up there and I can accept the idea better. Once he's there though I imagine it's either going to be all crazy CG action... or a very green remake of John Carter.

Comment by Alejandro Marquez on February 5, 2013 at 7:37am Sounds lame tbh.
Comment by Zanjarath on February 5, 2013 at 1:56am I'd be onboard for that idea. Just to see the kind of damage that the Hulk would have to do in order to be kicked off the planet sounds awesome. I love the Hulk and how he is more of a force of nature than a person at times. I want to see him level a city or a small country.
Comment by Ferry2dead on February 5, 2013 at 1:10am HELL NO! Producers and studios want to always make movies based on what they think people want to see, remember "Spiderman 3" with venom and how they fucked that up. So NO! Oh yea FUCK HOLLYWOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Comment by RenegadeBanner on February 5, 2013 at 12:40am I know a ton of people are going to hate hearig this but, I feel that James Cameron influence on it would definitely work well for the movie. Take notes from the "Avatar" movie and the comic source and fuse them into the movie and Marvel/ Disney would not only have a win win senerio, they could potentially make Hulk a bogger marvel SuperStar. Hell, we all know how Wolverine's last movie did with fans.
