Could Harrison Ford Return For 'Blade Runner' Reboot?

The world of online movie news is a strange wilderness of ever-changing, sometimes completely contradictory reports. In Early 2011, it was revealed that Warner Brothers, in association with Alcon Entertainment, was setting in motion a reboot to Ridley Scott's 1982 sci-fi masterpiece 'Blade Runner.' Months later we learned that Scott himself would be returning to direct the reboot, and it was largely supposed that it would be his immediate followup to this year's 'Prometheus;' which is itself Scott returning to one of his own properties. The story of a futuristic law enforcement agent tasked with sniffing out and eliminating four replicants, or androids who are almost indistinguishable from humans, 'Blade Runner' is the highly revered adaptation of Philip K. Dick's story 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?' It may be this reverence that had producer Andrew Kosove asserting to the L.A. Times that the reboot would actually be a complete break from everything we saw in the first film. Apparently however, nobody told Harrison Ford that. According to Twitch, based on information from their source, the star of the original films is in early talks to return for the reboot, which would then most likely make it a direct sequel and not a reboot at all. As of this time, no official deal has been made.

There are two questions we must ask ourselves here. Assuming this rumor is true, and that Ford is returning for the next 'Blade Runner' film, does that provide definitive evidence that the reboot angle has been scrapped in favor of a direct sequel with Ford once again being the focus? I would argue that it does not. While Ford would most likely return as Deckard, I don't see him playing anyone else, it is possible that he would appear early in the film in some sort of torch-passing capacity to a younger Blade Runner and then either make a voluntary exit from the narrative or be killed off; the younger Blade Runner then having to investigate/avenge his death. The reasoning for this assumption leads to the second question: would we really want Ford to star in the reboot/sequel? Don't get me wrong, I have nothing but respect for the man and 'Blade Runner' is a phenomenal film, but we would be fools not to acknowledge Ford's advanced age. If 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' is any indication, it would seem his best action days are far behind him. As much as many of us love Deckard, I would argue that it would be categorically unwise for Scott to center the new film on Harrison Ford if he intends to have even the same amount of action as was featured in the original, and he is smart enough to recognize this.

But enough about my thoughts, I want to hear from you guys. What do you think of Harrison Ford coming back for another 'Blade Runner' film?

What folly to reboot Bladerunner....for what it is its the perfect Bladerunner that could be made and holds up to viewing nowadays.

A trashy sequel/prequel I would love to see, the AVP movies never tarnished Alien and Aliens for me, I love a schlocky popcorn movie too......the thought of a "reboot" is a bit sickening.

What happened to Ridley's idea of having other stories set in the "Bladerunner" Universe as in Prometheus? Now that I don't mind at all....forget Replicants and tell stories of the Off World Colonies or a Max Headroom-esque story of photo journalists going up against sinister sci-fi film noir corruption. Plenty of stories to tell in that universe other then casting EMO replicants in some horrible reboot/retread.

I would love to see Phillip K. Dick being portrayed by either Nathan Fillion or Casper Van Dien (Johnny Rico in Starship Troopers). And have Zoic Studios do the CG for this movie.

It's a PADINKUEL

With Ridley Scott making a return to Sci-Fi films period I'm happy. It will be nice seeing a new Bladerunner, a futuristic world not so much reliance on CG effects only using them when necessary as it appears he is doing with Prometheus.

prey 2 is pretty much as close to a blade runner sequel as anything will ever be

Dya know what I do with all these remakes/reboots?...I download the shit outta them!!!! And I don't believe in downloading movies.

I'm curious but would never pay money to see it. Hollywood needs to be sent a message.

And I know he argument that remakes "are nothin' new" but the remakes of the past came out of a burning desire or a wild hair up someones creative arse to do something diffrent with an old concept.

Remakes these days come out of:

"What property worked in the past that we have/can buy the rights to?"

"What cult foreign movie hit that was released last week can we remake, coz Americans don't wanna read no dang movie?"

Whether it's true or not, I'm surprised the Spill crew is hesitant to accept Ford in the movie, even in the role of an action hero. The last Indiana Jones had its problems, but Ford wasn't one of them - he was very believable as an older but still awesome Indiana Jones - the problem with that movie was the story and some implausibilities. I never thought his performance was called into question. Sheesh.

Relax everyone... turns out it's just internet whimsy. Alcon (the company in charge) released a statement that this is false and that right now they're still barely trying to figure out what the story is actually going to be and what direction they'll go with it - no casting has even been discussed. They did say that they're taking Prometheus as an example - they'd like to do something in the same basic realm as Blade Runner, but as it's own standalone film that isn't directly related.
