Disney/Pixar has released more concept art for their princess fairy tale 'Brave'. Set in the highlands of Scotland, the film  follows the courageous Princess Merida, voiced by Kelly McDonald (taking over for Reese Witherspoon who recently left the project) as she turns her back against her tribe's cultural traditions in order to carve out a future as an archer. The Princess seeks the guidance of the Wise Woman, played by Julie Walters, who grants her an ill-fated wish that sends her on a quest to save her cursed kingdom.

'Brave', which began it's life at Pixar as 'The Bear and the Bow', was in pre-production during the shakeup that occured when Disney bought the company. During the months that followed, the film was reviewed by Disney's new creative team and largely changed, leading to creator/director Brenda Chapman to leave the project completely. Redubbed 'Brave' and helmed by director Mark Andrews, the film also stars Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson, Craig Ferguson, Kevin McKidd, Robbie Coltrane and is scheduled to be released in 3D on June 22nd, 2012.

@ Kakkoi, whether it's "Concept Art" or not, the overall design tends to mimmick Stitch, which makes me leery of the finished product. Large bulbous undefined fingers, facial features and legs, with blurred edges. Not at all visually attractive. While I loved the plot to Stitch (as well as Brave), I found the art to be horrible, visually speaking, as well as distracting to the story. It's just an opinion. Cheers!

@lisa

It's called "Concept Art" for a reason. No this will not be what the movie looks like this is just rough pictures (done by hand) to give people an idea of what characters/locations look like.

WHAT!!!!??? REESE WITHERSPOON ISN'T IN IT!!!!! FUUUUCK!!!!! She IS Scottish!! She's related to John Fucking Witherspoon, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, who is Scottish! Pixar, I've lost respect for you, and I'm not being sarcastic.

I'll be brave

the premise is dull, but pixar can pull anything off. They didn't make being John Malcovich, the closer they ever got was Monsters inc. I'll see this.

@Stupendous Man

Yes, you're right that she is female and ginger, but I was talking in terms of the ultimate protaginist, whilst although Jessie is among the heroes, it is Woody and Buzz who are the leading characters in Toy Story.

This is going to be Pixars first film there the main character's female, aswell as ginger, so that's why I made that comment.

Hope this answers your question :)

The artwork leaves something to be desired, too blurred and undefined. Really hope this is just a rough draft on display and NOT what the actual Movie has to offer... On the other hand, love the story concept, and the cast sounds fab.

Assuming The Bear and the Bow was about a bear with a bow, I'm gonna have to side with Disney and this new direction. Just don't tone it down for the kids and keep the damn goofy characters and dance numbers to a minimum.

I'm ready for Pixar to give us something that doesn't already look like a toyline.

Worrisome.

The Bear and the Bow was a better title...
