Disney/Pixar has released more concept art for their princess fairy tale 'Brave'. Set in the highlands of Scotland, the film follows the courageous Princess Merida, voiced by Kelly McDonald (taking over for Reese Witherspoon who recently left the project) as she turns her back against her tribe's cultural traditions in order to carve out a future as an archer. The Princess seeks the guidance of the Wise Woman, played by Julie Walters, who grants her an ill-fated wish that sends her on a quest to save her cursed kingdom.

'Brave', which began it's life at Pixar as 'The Bear and the Bow', was in pre-production during the shakeup that occured when Disney bought the company. During the months that followed, the film was reviewed by Disney's new creative team and largely changed, leading to creator/director Brenda Chapman to leave the project completely. Redubbed 'Brave' and helmed by director Mark Andrews, the film also stars Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson, Craig Ferguson, Kevin McKidd, Robbie Coltrane and is scheduled to be released in 3D on June 22nd, 2012.

the premise is dull, but pixar can pull anything off. They didn't make being John Malcovich, the closer they ever got was Monsters inc. I'll see this.

Yes, you're right that she is female and ginger, but I was talking in terms of the ultimate protaginist, whilst although Jessie is among the heroes, it is Woody and Buzz who are the leading characters in Toy Story.
This is going to be Pixars first film there the main character's female, aswell as ginger, so that's why I made that comment.
Hope this answers your question :)

Comment by Bradford on March 31, 2011 at 5:58am I'm ready for Pixar to give us something that doesn't already look like a toyline.
