I don't understand you folks saying District 9 should have won something. It seems like you don't even care what the award was. The awards go to the film that came the closest to perfection in each category being discussed. In every category that District 9 was nominated at least one film out did it by no small margin. I understand liking the film but just giving it a pity award because you like it is just as bad.

Also the film wasn't very good IMHO

"Kathryn Bigelow does not have half the skill that James cameron has to make a movie. Theres more skill when you have to pretend that there are environments that are not even there. then having to shoot in a real one."

Here's why this is untrue:
1. Animating your own environment gives you 100% oversight, it allows you to augment performances and manipulate conditions. It's arguably easier for a director to create an exact vision under such conditions, espcially since he just tells animators what to create. Live action shooting requires a director to control a lot of aspects then and there, and a flaw can't necessarily just be undone in post. Plus, the ability to do something like this proves Cameron had one big advantage totally unrelated to skill: hundreds of millions of dollars.

2. This might be true for actors who have to pretend in the then and there, but the acting wasn't that memorable in Avatar in the first place.

3. By this logic, Up, not Avatar, should have won.

This is a response to Christian Bergman jr. You say AVATAR is in no way as skillfully made as THL. Are you crazy what skill is in THL. Kathryn Bigelow does not have half the skill that James cameron has to make a movie. Theres more skill when you have to pretend that there are environments that are not even there. then having to shoot in a real one. THL. is a fluke the only reason it one was because it made a political statement. It Shouldnt have won Best picture nor best director. Best sound design and best sound mixing. Give me a break. I can see it for best screenplay but it had no right to win for all that it did. One more thing whos The king of the world.

Up in the Air should have one for best picture in my humble opinion.

District 9 should get one award.
Good that the Hurt Locker got a lot, but too much IMO. Thank god Avatar received only few and not major ones. Money is the only thing Cameron was aiming at.

Hurt Locker, was a very well done film and should get strong recognition for that. And im 'meh' on best picture win for it though. I DO feel District-9 should've won at lest one award. I'd love to see it win best picture, but that's a sci-fi film winning, and we just can't have that happen!
