Back in March, it was reported that Marvel had narrowed its search for 'Captain America 2' directors down to three options, one of which was the team of Anthony and Joe Russo of NBC's 'Community.' They seemed like the longshot, but many of us were pulling for them. Now it seems as if they've emerged as the studio's top choice. The two are in final negotiations with Marvel, solidifying their deal to helm the film. On top of this little news nugget, a recent photo from the set of 'Iron Man 3' has given us a possible hint as to who Cap'n may be facing in his next outing. Take a gander...
What does this seemingly innocuous piece of set dressing have to do with Captain America? Late last summer, 'Captain America: The First Avenger' screenwriter Christopher Markus, who will purportedly also be co-writing the sequel, stated that he wanted the sinister and creepy-looking MODOK (Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing) to be the next villain, but was having trouble convincing the studio that this was the right move. He also stated he wanted Peter Dinklage ('Game of Thrones') to play the role. MODOK was created by the nefarious company Advanced Idea Mechanics whose logo is pictured above. He tangled with Iron Man on occasion, but he was a frequent foe of Captain America. Does this hint that Markus has convinced Marvel to go forward with MODOK once 'Captain America 2' gets rolling?
Ok, first off, I'm glad to see the Russo Brothers won the job. As I said before, the complex and fearless geekiness demonstrated on 'Community' could be a powerful asset to a superhero film. I have no doubt these guys are fans of the character and have some great ideas, otherwise, as the clear underdogs, they wouldn't have had a chance. Now, as to the AIM sign, obviously we are looking at 'Iron Man 3' set photos and making assumptions about other films, but then again, Marvel has been so concerned over the last four years with interweaving and interconnecting its various superhero worlds into one enormous universe. I'm not saying this is assured proof that MODOK is going to be the villain in 'Captain America 2,' in fact it could very well be some sort of re-purposing for the sake of the 'Extremis' storyline or just a background head nod to other properites, but it is an interesting coincidence given what we know of Markus' intentions for the Cap sequel. I'm not a huge fan of MODOK, but if they do cast Peter Dinklage, you can bet every ounce of Lannister gold that I will be sitting eagerly in the theater the day 'Captain America 2' comes out.
What do you guys think? Happy the Russo Brothers were chosen to direct? Think we'll see MODOK in 'CapAm 2?'

Comment by BB Metal Head on June 11, 2012 at 9:08pm Maybe instead of having MODOK be a giant head with tiny limbs they could rework him into being an advanced A.I. similar to JARVIS from the Iron Man films. I don't know, but it's just a thought.
Comment by Josh Hobbs on June 10, 2012 at 11:29pm I think it has potential with dinklage but othewise it'll prolly be like the thor movie. Not bad, just kinda decent. But who the hell knows they could go eight different directions from here.
Comment by Atheist_Jesus on June 9, 2012 at 4:13pm LMAO. No MODOK. Do Zemo or some shit.

Comment by Gift of the Magi on June 8, 2012 at 11:27am @joseph: You also have to factor that Superman's opponents can usually level cities by themselves AT LEAST...while Cap's villains are usually either skill-based fighters or heads of evil organizations. Also, Cap doesn't have superpowers either. He just has a perfect human body...and can't get drunk easily....that's about it.

Obviously I'm not Magi, but if I had to add my two cents it would be that Rogers is more vulnerable. Superman always feels so powerful I'm rarely ever fearful for his safety, and it doesn't seem like he's taking that huge of a risk. But when Cap is standing up to a being like Galactus or Thanos it seems he's taking a far greater risk, since he lacks most of that power, and thus translates to more apparent heroism and courage.
Kind of like Batman, in that regard, though Batman takes it to the extreme in that he actually has NO superpowers at all.
Comment by Dr.DeadVortex on June 8, 2012 at 8:33am Don't like the Russo brothers,can't understand why marvel didn't pick George Nolfi he seems like the perfect choice.Until i see footage i can't really say how this will turn out.
Comment by Happy Birthday Roboto on June 8, 2012 at 7:19am Didn't the Dean from Community win an Oscar recently?
@Magi
I'm not really sure what the issue is with MODOK, he looks ridiculous and has a lame name in a world where people have gamma induced rage triggered super strength, also he always had my full attention whenever he turned up onscreen in the Avengers cartoon. But he's not a physical villain so there'll be someone else. Good praise for Rogers but what about Clark Kent?

Comment by PirateLordBush on June 7, 2012 at 10:51pm Ooh, Baron Zemo would be great! That way, it can tie-in with the Thunderbolt movie.
This is all wishful thinking of course
