Well it's been a couple of weeks since New York Comic Con 2010 and I'm caught up with all my work so I thought I'd give you guys a long overdue recap of my misadventures!
Are you excited? WHAT?! NO?! Just to let you know, we may run into some boobs on this trip and I don't mean the guys dressed up as Goku from Dragon Ball Z! That's more like it! I don't want to bore anyone to death with these blogs so I figure I'd just briefly hit up on the highlights of my trip. Now shut up and read!
How it all started.
I freakin' made it! The plane didn't crash and that's always a plus, even though some passengers may have wanted it to because there were kids running up and down the plane aisle with their toy airplanes, crashing them down onto the floor and screaming like banshees! Their mother from HELL even had the bright idea of giving her kids one of those damn monkey drums, you know, that hand held noisy ass drum that Mr. Miyagi used in Karate Kid 2 that put Danielson in KILL MODE. Let me tell you, everyone on that plane looked at those kids like starving zombies. Next time I hope someone books my flight on the Soul Plane!
I finally land and got wasted with my buddy Joel and woke up the next morning with a bra on my head looking at a naked Barbie doll covered in puke! Stay away from the booze kids! I get my robot ass on a subway and head to Dorkville. about an hour later I realize I'm there and I see that awesome Walking Dead banner that sets my geek gauge to FULL THROTTLE! I scream LET'S DO THIS!!! and a native New Yorker tells me to shut up. I vow to train overseas and kick her twelve year old ass later, but it's time to get me some authentic New York food so I buy a hot dog with motor oil that you get by putting your dog under one of their cabs. Now that's some gourmet sh*t!!!
Day 1
There were plenty of panels going on around at 11:00am, but nothing I was interested in. Example: Why Graphic Novels Should be in Your Library. Are you for real?! That panel better be hosted by a naked Jessica Alba to get my ass in there, and I'm not talking about that digital nakedness crap either dammit! So what do I do? I go and explore the show room floors of coarse dumb dumb.
Now it's time to go to work!
Move it Iron Dork!
Ohhh! AM I DEAD?
WHOOPS! Sorry Mrs. Storm, you must of de-cloaked or something.
Thank the LORD!
I told you guys we'd run into... you know. Once again, haste makes way for great opportunities, I always say...hehe.
2:15 pm
Spotlight on Geoff Johns
My first panel of the con was with Geoff Johns, that guy who resurrected Hal Jordan as Green Lantern and single handedly made DC the great comic book company it is today!
Highlights
The first Green Lantern trailer will play with the new Harry Potter film.
The Green Lantern cartoon series will be all CGI, the Green Lantern Corp will prominently be featured in the series and it's set to be a giant space opera like Star Wars.
Johns' is a consultant on the Green Lantern film and the upcoming Flash film and said Sinestro looked kick ass.
He'll be writing another Smallville episode featuring Blue Beatle and Booster Gold. He described a scene where Booster Gold tells Clark to take a day off. Oh and he told me personally that he won't be able to write a Mon-El episode of Smallville for me because he's only allowed to write one episode this season. That sucks. He also talked about his love for the series.
Johns' writing for Robot Chicken!
Now for the comics.
He plans on making Aquaman even more of a total badass after Brightest Day by having Aquadude ask for his job back as leader of the JLA!
Confirmed all DC comics will be $2.99
He's working on a Green Lantern Secret Origins 2 focusing on Sinestro.
That crazy Red Lantern cat Dex-Starr may get his own Valentine's Day comic with him facing off with Krypto! Valentine's Day?
And last but not least, he gave a war veteran an autograph. What a cool dude!
3:30 pm
Marvel: Welcome to the X-Men
Now this is a panel I regret leaving only because I heard it got pretty nasty between the talent and their readers during the Q&A. It's not my fault though. As soon as they started talking about their books and gloating about them like they were the second coming of Christ, they showed us a picture of Wolverine and Colossus about to make out and I had to checkout. It was all Marvel geek salad to me. I was hoping they'd talk about their cartoons or movie properties but no luck. Always read the small print when looking at the description of the panels.
3:45 pm
Lolita Fashion

Let me explain! After I ran out of that Marvel panel, I decided to walk in any door I came across, just to see what they were talking about and before I knew it I was in a panel discussing Lolita fashion and I felt like the biggest perv at comic con hehe! To my surprise I did notice many girls at the con dressing up in this new "Lolita" trend that's become it's own subculture in Japan for some reason. I assumed that maybe I'd get get some history behind this bizarre fashion trend were grown ass women dress up like little Victorian dolls. Isn't there a law against that kind of stuff? Beats me. Instead of getting any history about this so called "fashion" all I get are make-up tips and how to buy the right wig. Don't buy any of those Halloween wigs girls! You'll have way too much trouble styling it. I got the hell of there right after I got a disgusting look for some old dude with a mustache dressed as Commisioner Gordon, I think . WHAT?! You never seen a robot at a LOLITA PANEL BEFORE! What the Funk!
5:30 pm
Upcoming DC Universe Animated Original Films & Shorts

This panel was the highlight for me with executive producer Bruce Timm (Batman TAS, Superman TAS, Justice League Unlimited) and writer Michael Jelenic (Wonder Woman, Batman: Brave & the Bold) in attendance to discuss Superman/ Shazam: The Return of Black Adam Animated Short (11/9/10) and All-Star Superman animated feature (Spring 2011). They showed clips from Superman/Shazam and All-Star Superman and let me tell you, they both looked fantastic! I kid you not! Superman/Shazam is more of an origin story for Shazam and the clip we were shown had Shazam discovering his powers while fighting Black Adam and the dialogue was perfect. Just imagine what you would say as a kid realizing in the heat of battle, kicking lots of ass, you're just like Superman. They captured it perfectly. Then they showed the first 6 minutes or so of All-Star Superman and the first thing I noticed was how they got Frank Quitely's look just right and they also managed to capture the excitement of the comic. The audience went crazy after seeing the clip and Bruce Timm said it's by far his most favorite feature from the DC animated line. The Q&A was pretty good and Bruce Timm did state that you will never see a Teen Titans, Kingdom Come or Crisis on Infinite Earths animated feature because given the time they have to tell these stories, they couldn't do them justice, it's just not gonna happen. He did say he was happy when Teen Titans fell though because he actually respects the Cartoon Network show and thought they did a great job telling those stories already.
6:45
Robot Chicken
After the DCU Animated panel was over the Robot Chicken panel started and Seth Green, his wife Clare Grant, Matt Senriech and surprise guest Macaulay Culkin hit the stage in funny hats. They then showed clips from their upcoming Robot Chicken Xmas episode (12/10/10), Star Wars 3 hour long episode (12/19/10) and the fifth season of Robot Chicken (1/9/11)
Highlights
Robot Chicken Xmas
Santa and Superman have a race around the world to see who's the fastest.
Batman and Robin going ape shit crazy
Macaulay Culkin reprises his Home Alone character and he becomes the boob of his own traps!
Robot Chicken Star Wars 3
Admiral Ackbar takes a bubble bath
Darth Vader almost defeated by his own restroom!
Robot Chicken Season 5
More racist robots from the next Transformer movie
A Tron joke of course
Much more of the same that you've come to expect from Robot Chicken
Oh and there will be a Robot Chicken/Venture Bros. crossover!
After that they opened the floor to questions and it was pretty damn funny. Someone asked what the hell has Macaulay Culkin been up to and Seth Green said that if Macaulay decides to never work on anything again, he'll still be more relevant than anyone in the room. Macaulay then said he actually likes doing nothing and working on Robot Chicken. Good for him! Someone asked if they'll ever spoof Jersey Shore and Matt Senriech said that they do a great job of that already on their own and that he actually loves the show. Zac Efron's name was mentioned and Seth Green told a story about Zac visiting their studio and asking employees what they were working on and being a really super cool guy. It's cool to like that Zac now! Someone asked if there's ever been a celebrity that was pissed off at the show and Seth talked about how Stevie Wonder's people weren't happy about a sketch they did on him. Seth said, "The letter was basically like, "Hey man, we represent the beloved entertainer Stevie Wonder...that wasn't cool man." Seth then said, "We all read it and teared up, like "I hope we didn't hurt Stevie's feelings." Seth ended it by saying, "I don't think anyone showed it to him." I couldn't help but bust out laughing after I heard that. Now that was a fun panel.
8pm
Venture Bros.
Doc Hammer, Jackson Publick and a very late Michael Sinterniklass hit the stage for the last panel of the night to discuss the Venture Bros. Since the show is already airing they really didn't have any clips or really anything new to talk about so they just goofed around with the audience and told people to watch the show.
Highlights
Venture Bros./ Robot Chicken crossover
New toys
Funny phone call to Mike.
I don't want to you to feel cheated with this panel because it was actually funny. I just wouldn't do it justice by telling you their jokes so click on the link and see it and hear it for yourself.
After that, the first day of NYCC was over and when those doors slammed shut behind me, I soon realized that I had no place to stay...but that... is another story! *insert Conan music here*
Sooo cold.
