While 'The Dark Knight Rises' was one of the most anticipated movies of 2012, the reception to the film was quite divisive. Whether you liked the final chapter of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy or not, it's clear that it was nowhere near as well-received as his first two outings. But how much of the perceived plot incongruity and lacking character development was a result of the script and how much was a product of the editing? Well it looks like we'll get a chance to find that out when 'The Dark Knight Rises' hits DVD and Blu-ray. The home release a director's cut that will, according to reports, include 30 minutes of previously unseen footage. The extra scenes will purportedly dig more deeply into Bane's backstory, including how he learned to fight, and feature more screen time for Ra's Al Ghul (Liam Neeson).
Why is this newsworthy? Christopher Nolan has never before released a director's cut of any of his films. I'm not sure if that is due to the fact that he is ardently against them on principle, or if he simply doesn't cut much from most of his movies. The knee-jerk reaction here will be to assume that doing a director's cut on 'The Dark Knight Rises,' is Nolan's admission that the film was sub-par. There are so many possible reasons that this is his first director's cut. It could be nothing more than Warner Brothers realizing that this is the Blu-ray is the last ounce of Bat bank they will be able to squeeze out of Nolan and therefore put an exorbitant amount of pressure on him to make the home release even more of a draw for buyers. Regardless of the reason, I am incredibly excited to see the new footage. I am in the camp of those who loved 'The Dark Knight Rises,' but I also recognize it has more than its fair share of problems. It'll be interesting to see if this rumored director's cut smooths over any of the film's rougher story elements.
What do you guys think? Should Nolan do a director's cut? If he is definitely doing one, what do you suppose is his motivation?

YES YES YES!!! my prayers have been answered!
Comment by RunningOnEmpty on September 11, 2012 at 2:37am I'd still prefer a Deathly Hallows Part 2 Director's Cut, but this could be cool.
Comment by Andres Perez on September 10, 2012 at 2:00pm With 30 minutes of extra footage, I better see a Joker cameo in there somewhere.
Comment by The Blind Fella on September 10, 2012 at 1:37pm I hope it will fix all those annoying plot holes.
how about 2 hr 45 mins of new footage?
Comment by Kieran Tobin on September 10, 2012 at 10:59am Loved the film. My film of the year thus far. It has its problems and is far from perfect so hopefully the Blue Ray will iron these out. Deffo going to get it and will have to set aside a huge chunk of time to watch it.
Comment by The1withthepen on September 10, 2012 at 10:00am Coming to Blu Ray and DVD The Dark Knight Rises, now a 4 hour long, you'll have to do yoga after because your ass will be so cramped, event!
Comment by FatalGuerrero on September 10, 2012 at 9:26am While I did enjoy the movie, the breaking down of Gotham into anarchy could have been touched upon more if that is added I'll be happy. Likewise learning how Bane fight and more of his character is not something I can care for. Due to him being a second fiddle in the long run. it really saddened me that they tried so hard to make him the leader but he was really the head goon
Comment by Arkduune on September 10, 2012 at 7:29am @Chambosi Hi dude. More than happy too, however I would not want to start another "What I thought of TDKR" forum here in these comments. I'd be more than happy to discuss (at length) my thoughts on the film if you PM me however. Glad you liked the film, look forward to hearing your thoughts. Cheers!
