Christina Applegate Will Be Returning For 'Anchorman 2'

When Ron Burgundy himself announced that 'Anchorman: The Legend Continues' was in fact a reality, it was near simultaneously confirmed that Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, and David Koechner were all reprising their roles. Then word came down from Adam McKay that a custody battle was going to figure heavily into the plot, and I must admit I took it for granted that it was going to be a battle for custody of the offspring of Ron and his lady friend Veronica Corningstone, but there was no confirmation that Christina Applegate would returning for the sequel. But now it seems as those Applegate's people are indeed confirming that she will once again be playing Veronica, the first female anchor in Channel 4's history. 'Anchorman: The Legend Continues' is due out some time in 2013.

Like I said, I had taken this return for granted, but I am still quite excited to see Christina Applegate confirm it. I'm not sure the sequel would have worked if they had recast her part. Applegate proved to be the perfect romantic interest for Ron Burgundy as well as the ideal adversary. Her willingness to topple head-first into the silliness and the off-the-wall dialogue gave the movie a great deal of added charm. Now that we know for sure that Applegate is on board, I suppose it's just as presumptuous to assume that the custody battle will center on her child. It would be hilarious if, say, Brick wandered into the Channel 2 News office and now they're trying to keep him. But hey, that's armchair screenwriting and it means nothing. What do you guys think?

Are you excited Applegate is back? How do you see this "custody battle" device working into the story?

I don't want them to split up :( I didn't care too much for the film, but I did enjoy the relationship of the two characters.

I'd like it better if the custody battle was about Brit. lol. But I'm glad she's back. She was great in the 1st movie.
