Fans of NBC's 'Community' are probably well-acquainted with the tension that frequently cropped up behind the scenes. This tension usually boiled down to the temperamental Chevy Chase, who plays the curmudgeonly Pierce Hawthorne, and his constant issues with show creator Dan Harmon. Chase made no secret of his distaste for the writing and jokes; often storming off set or just flat out refusing to take part in certain gags. When 'Community' was scheduled to return to the airwaves, sans Mark Harmon, many wondered if these problems had been solved. However it appears Chase's dissatisfaction with 'Community' could not be quelled by Harmon's departure. It has been announced that, effective immediately, Chase will also be exiting. This was said to be a mutual agreement between the actor and the show's executives. 'Community's fourth season is mostly shot, with only one or two episodes to go, though when these completed episodes will air seems to keep changing. As it stands, season four arrives February 7th.
That sound you're hearing is not one person on this planet being surprised by this news. Chase's relationship with Harmon, his open, bilious frustration with the show and with his character, and his constant temper tantrums instantly slapped a ticking clock on his run on the show. I gotta say I did let myself believe that Harmon's firing, after leaving that not-so-tactful angry voicemail on Chase's phone, might calm things down a bit. And indeed, they were able to get Chase to do the majority of the fourth season. But it's not as if I ever fooled myself into thinking that everything was copacetic now, I mean we are still talking about Chase's ego, right? He was so great in the 80s, in all those classic comedies that made him a legend, but even as a 'Community' fan I can't say I'm going to miss him. His character was always such a drag for me and I don't think they're going to have a hard time filling that spot at the study table. Is it too much to hope that another 80s legend might step in? Did someone say Dan Aykroyd?
What do you guys think? Are you upset Chase is leaving? Do you think he means it this time? Who might you chose as a replacement for Pierce?

Comment by EagleVision on November 24, 2012 at 7:26am I've never had a problem with the character and I am surprised to find out that most other people do ( the character Britta is the one that I couldn't stand at times in the previous season).I don't think they should replace him with another guy.
Maybe it would be best if the show itself ended after this season, although if you ask me,it should have ended after the last one - and don't get me wrong,I love it,but I don't know where they can go with this, since everything has been developed/explored.
Comment by Right Click on November 24, 2012 at 7:05am Seriously, I stopped watching the show SPECIFICALLY because of Chevy Chase. I followed the first 2 seasons, but his character was just so damn annoying, so unlikeable, and his character was more dickish than funny. Chevy has massive ego problems, from what I've heard from people who have done extra work with him.
Comment by stiver on November 24, 2012 at 5:21am Fuck that guy, lamest part of the show (next to Chang).
Comment by PoisonPirate on November 24, 2012 at 5:06am Evidently I'm in the minority of people who found his character funny but... that said, good riddance to Chase. Self important blow hard.
I earnestly wonder if this means Harmon will be back but I don't have much hope. Why, oh, why is the universe conspiring to doom this show?
Comment by Rrinman on November 24, 2012 at 3:06am I didn't care much for Pierce. Only in the beginning he was added something, later his character felt forced. Him and Shirley are the dead weights dragging everyone down. So this is good news. He shouldn't be replaced, except maybe by Bill Murray, but I don't think that would make the show as a whole better.,
Comment by 16ResistsRetalliates on November 23, 2012 at 11:12pm At times Pierce can get a little too much sometimes like Chang but I still endured towards him. I rather have Pierce still alive and somewhere else than have an off-screen death.
Comment by Chad Ehrhart on November 23, 2012 at 9:43pm Good fucking riddance.
You guys should do TV news more often. Well, this news suck, yet is not unexpected. He will be missed though he was the since the show still has people like Donald Glover, Alison Brie, Dani Pudi, Jim Rash and Joel Mchale, his absence will not effect my love for the show.
Comment by Wodenson on November 23, 2012 at 8:58pm To help the show stay on, maybe they need to keep costs down and not replace Chevy with a big name or at all.
