Wow, I watched this movie on my always handy Charter On Demand for 5.99 (WO!) in HD and I was completely in aww of the movie. Maybe I'm one of the few that thought it was an amazing film but I will stand by that bold claim. First off, Anglina Jolie, who I thought was nothing more than a hot b-list actress, totally made me eat my words. She ended up giving a performance of her career (in my opinion).
First off, whoever did the makeup for her was crazy. I didn't even know it was her on the trailer and when it said her name I was astounded and confused. Then, she almost had a different voice (accent) in the movie and I was also confused to thinking (this isn't Anglina Jolie) but furthermore I thought wrong. The mood and feel of the movie was a depressing one (thanks to the awsome director Clint Eastwood) which totally fit the plot and situation of the movie.
Next, John Malchovich (who I find to be a great actor but somewhat annyoing sometimes) did a great job as the local radio priest who spread his message of injustice and corruption through his radio show. His character was great and I enjoyed it when he was on screen.
So in the end, why was this movie snubbed. Was it not artsy enough for the Academy? Was the acting only great and not perfect. I don't know what a perfect movie is anymore but if I had to chose this would definitly be in my nomination list. I think it was "much" better than the incredibly ovverated "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"
