Catherine Zeta-Jones Joins Cast Of 'Red 2'

When Summit took a look at the box office grosses for 'RED,' based on the graphic novel by Warren Ellis, a sequel was all but assured. The story of a group of retired, but still extremely dangerous, secret agents, 'RED' starred Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Dame Helen Mirren, and John Malkovich with Mary-Louise Parker playing the younger love interest of Bruce Willis. Willis, Mirren, Malkovich, and Parker have all signed on to return for the sequel. The new film has also added 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation's Byun-Hun Lee. Well now it seems as if Catherine Zeta-Jones has climbed aboard 'RED 2' as well. As of now, there is no word as to who she might be playing. 'RED 2,' directed by Dean Parisot ('Galaxy Guest'), is due in theaters August 2, 2013.

I really enjoyed 'RED,' I found it to be a nice blend of action and comedy and it featured an incredibly strong ensemble. I'm not opposed to Catherine Zeta-Jones joining the cast, but it's the previous film and the returning actors that have me excited to see the sequel, not the addition of Zeta-Jones. As to who she might play, she's a bit too young to be one of the actual RED agents, and with Parker returning it's a cinch CZJ won't be the principal love interest. Perhaps a villain? Also, I'm so happy to see that Byun-Hun Lee is getting more work in Hollywood. He's a good Storm Shadow and all, but the real reason I'm such a fan of Lee's is his work in Korean films like 'The Good, The Bad, The Weird' and 'I Saw the Devil;' two movies I highly recommend if you haven't seen them. It will be interesting to see where he fits into the world as well. Perhaps one of our more comic book literate Spillios can make an educated guess based on Ellis' graphic novel?

What do you guys think? Are you interested in a 'RED' sequel? Is Catherine Zeta-Jones a good pickup for this project?

I love CZJ and everytime I see her I can't help but smile. But when I actually saw RED I thought it was gonna be hysterical, but when I saw it, it was MEH. Not interested.

Also like to mention A bittersweet Life. Another Byung-Hun Lee movie with the same director of Good, Bad, Weird and I Saw The Devil.
