Most of the last remaining casting spots in Marvel's Phase 2 reside with James Gunn's 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier.' As a result, a majority of the sensational rumors cropping up online over the last few weeks have revolved around these two projects. For example, we know that the 'Captain America' followup has been hunting for its female lead. Hayley Atwell will not be returning as Peggy Carter, and so far we've heard names ranging from Alison Brie to (inaccurately) Mary-Elizabeth Winstead as being in the running for the new female lead. Today, it appears as if the search is over. Emily VanCamp ('Revenge') has reportedly just booked the gig. Plot details are still being largely withheld, but there have been rumors that the new female character will be Peggy Carter's niece, and S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Sharon Carter. Anthony Mackie (as Falcon) and Frank Grillo (as Crossbones) have also recently come aboard, and Toby Jones will be reprising his role as Arnim Zola. 'The Winter Soldier' hits theaters April 4th, 2014.
One of the things I told myself early on regarding this sequel was that I was going to trust Joe and Anthony Russo, which is why I'm trying really hard not to second guess this casting choice. I had a feeling that the brothers Russo would look to TV to fill some of their available spots, as they themselves came from television, but I was really hoping for someone a little more established, or at least more impressive. I saw a couple of episodes of 'Revenge,' and found it to be pure trash TV. I will say that I liked VanCamp in 2009's 'Carriers,' but that is the best I can say for her. I was really hoping the Russos would go with Alison Brie, whom they've worked with and who is so good, on 'Community,' but perhaps she's too sweet to be a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent? Of course, that's assuming that this female lead is in fact Sharon Carter. There is still a lot we don't know about this 'Captain America' sequel.
What do you guys think? Are you happy with the choice to cast Emily VanCamp? Do you think she will be playing Sharon Carter?

WOW! We went from Hayley Atwell who is fireworks on legs to this Emily chick who is extremely bland looking to be related to her!
Comment by Matthew Mustin on February 5, 2013 at 3:38pm @patmander. Yeah, no. Jennifer Lawrence was perfect.

Chris Evans can't elevate the material (like someone like RDJ can). He just does what he's given. In the case of Cap, he did great for the first half when the writing was good, and then the second half was just campy. He was much better in Avengers, because it was much better written.
The song number was just a cheesy excuse to add in a very poorly made version of the original suit and hide the fact that they're skipping all the interesting stuff with a musical montage.
Comment by c clark on February 5, 2013 at 12:38pm Really, Fungusmonkey, Chris Evans was that bad? And the USO story line fit with the story line, even allowed the movie to recreate the famous 1st cover. This is little more than fan bys belly aching because the movie doesn't fit the movies they are directing in their heads.

@c clark - Oh, you mean 2 out of the 4 worst things about CATFA? Maybe there's a point here.
Comment by c clark on February 5, 2013 at 10:05am I seem to remember alot of bitching and moaning on this board when Chris Evans was tagged for Cap, or when leaks of a song and dance number was released.
There is also a third female character that many are over looking, Diamondback.
Comment by patmander on February 5, 2013 at 7:42am She should been given the role Katniss in the Hunger Game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Comment by C on February 5, 2013 at 5:36am She's pretty but very boring on Revenge. Very hard to picture her in an action-heavy role.
This comment section alone has come up with MUCH MUCH better casting ideas then this abortion of an actress, yet the reality stays the same. Bad call Marvel, the first and worst one you have made for Phase 2 so far.
