@Palladiamorsdeus, you want to talk about thinking before you talk? You talk about all the evils of capitalism, about how it makes monopolies and corrupts government officials, but you do realize that the social programs and market restrictions that have been passed as a way to "tone down" capitalism are the means by which officials take bribes and set up the conditions for a monopoly to occur, don't you?

You talk about competition being put out of business, but if it weren't for the government creating corporate status and then giving backing to only companies big enough to qualify, while at the same time creating a system of dues that only already established big business can pay, then we would have an economy full of small truly competitive businesses like we had a little over a century ago right?

I mean you do understand that the government actually trying to control the market at all is what gave them the opportunity to know where the money is and take some of it on the sly, don't you?
It doesn't take much thinking or research to look at Cuba or Russia and see exactly where a controlled market goes, but since I doubt you did either I'll just save you the time. Those markets go right down the shitter.

So if you want to live in a country that in half a century, or less, will be a third world hellhole then by all means love socialism, hate capitalism and stay right on that high horse of yours. But, if you're anything like me and hate to see unnecessary and undeserved human suffering then you should support a system that will support it's people, not try to control them. So if you worry about the people who can't get a job maybe you should ask yourself why they can't. Is it that some mean people came and stole every job on the market? is it because they don't have any skills with which to work? or is it that in America the need for workers have been reduced because no one can start up a new business that can compete with Wal-Mart or Starbucks?

If you want to fix the big problems with our economy repeal all the protections from big business, and take away any non-safety relation business restrictions, if you give people the chance to stand up on their own without kicking them down you'll see they won't even need any help getting to their feet.

There is a difference in trying to better yourself without taking advantage of others, and making your whole strategy center around how badly you can screw people. Justin, in using Moores weight as ANY sort of argument as to why he is hypocritical signifies that your understanding of the word is some what flawed. You further compound that by trying to use situations such as Gates donations to say it's an absolutely good thing. Black, white, and shades of grey, my friend, learn it or get out. Bill Gates built his entire company based on an idea he stole from some one else, and now has what almost amounts to a monopoly on the market. In fact Microsoft has been sued for just that, and trying to drive their competitors totally out of business ((Or buy them)) just for the very reason. After all if you have no competitors, who are the people going to buy from?

Oh, I'm sorry, he donated money to charity and organizations, and that makes everything okay, right? Open your eyes. Right now American Capitalism is mired down by so many companies trying to get rich off of other peoples misfortune or stupidity that it isn't funny. Our government is so caught up in bribes and whose paying who that they don't notice or even care about the greater problems facing America. You fail to mention how many of our homeless or starving were put there by capitalism, driven to poverty because some big company or another decided they wanted to take them for all they are worth.

Your understanding of philosophy fail is also in question. Moore did a documentary, and those aren't intended to make money. This isn't supposed to be some summer hit that is intended to bring in the people. It is intended to inform people of what's going on behind the scenes, and he goes from pillar to post, and unveils such an underbelly that it isn't funny. Some of his interviews with senators and the like will have you shaking your head, and as the Spill crew said, it'll make you angry.

Allow me to re-iterate. It is one thing to make money by offering people a service or product that they have a use for, and another to simply try to take them for all that they are worth. That is the difference in 'good' capitalism, and bad. In a perfect world, capitalism would work for the betterment of everyone, and we'd see more of your good examples. But we live in a world far from that, and until you open your eyes and stop trying to take some ones SIZE into consideration when they are speaking of CAPITALISM ((Because how many burgers he eats totally means he doesn't have a point, right?)) then you should probably think before you talk.

Micheal moore doesn't lie, he's never lied, but he does leave certain information out. The scene in bowling for columbian where charleton heston says over my dead body was taken form a diffrent nra convetion than the one that happened the year of the columbian shooting. now is that lieing? no. It's misleading but it's not lieing.he tells little white lies. I like micheal moore and agree with some stuff he says, but everything he says must be taken with a grain of salt and questioned a little, but it's the same for any documentry film maker or talking head.

I'm a rather large fan of keeping capitalism and socialism locked in a room, perpetually fighting it out till the end of days.

Which is why I propose changing the name of this country to the United States of Thunderdome.

Baroquejen: I am not entirely sure what being "Gobsmacked" feels like but I hope you are ok. I was being rather general in my defense of capitalism. If you infered my post was endorsing things like human enslavement then you truley missed my point. The bottom line is that as humans we DO act out of self interest. Capitalism (however flawed it may be) is the only system that recognizes that fact and allows people to realize their potential and become upwardly (as well as downwardly) mobile. Any and all sorts of idealistic socialist systems that seek to get rid of classes or competition have failed. IE: Cuba, USSR, N. Korea, Etc. I don't advocate that capitalism be left "unchecked" although I do beleive that government intereference usually causes more harm than good. Besides, this "base human competitive instinct" you deplore can also be the source for alturism and tremendous good in society. Bill Gates gives billions to eradicate malaria, Rockefeller built libriaires, etc. Humankind would have been much worse off these evil corperate titans Micheal Moor demonizes would not have been allowed to flourish under the hateful capitalist system.

check out Infowars.com and google Alex Jones and his movies: The Obama Deception and Endgame: Blueprint for Global Enslavement.

you think this level of corruption is bad, it gets even worse, get out of the Left-Right Paradigm and realize both parties are controlled by the same people. I generally don't post political stuff on non-political website, but this is an exception cause its a political conversation.

check out the search terms and the site.

I haven't seen the film - but I will. You might be saying "Then shut the *%#* up until you hear Moore's arguments." but by the time I get to see that movie this post will be gone. Philosophically M.M. is full of shit. He got funding for this movie, he paid employees (gaffers & that) and he, or the studio that bought his film, makes $ when you go to see it. It made almost 5 mil this past weekend by the way. That is the very definition of capitlaism "makin a profit". Buying low, selling high", etc. And I am so freakin tired of people who rail against systems while at the very same time benefittting from them. I would use the word hypocrite here but I have to preface it and say "big-fat hypocrite". Yes, his weight IS relevant because this man has no self restraint - Either at the buffet line or with crazy-superleftist-out of touch with reality claims he makes. Capitalism, and the basic understanding of human nature (that people seek to better themselves: Duh.) has been responsible for more peoples needs being met, better living conditions than any marxist socialist regime anywhere from any period of history. Why don't you all follow SPILLS advice and research THAT claim!
