The current market of First Person Shooters is saturated with gritty, realistic shooters (CoD and BBC2 I'm looking at you). And Bulletstorm is nothing different . . .

JUST KIDDING!!! Bulletstorm made by the company People Can Fly (the guys that made Painkiller, another game that I thoroughly recommenced) is really a breath of fresh air. The game is set in a futuristic world where you play as Grayson Hunt, a space pirate who is bloodthirsty for revenge. Like many other first person shooters, have your typical line in sight and standard issue assault rifle and pistol. However the game offers something unique, a combo system in which you can generate a higher "score" by comboing your "duke nukem esque" kick, slide, and electro whip in very over the top way. Not only that, Bulletstorm also offers 6 more weapons, ranging from a remote controlled sniper bullet, to a flail gun. The weapons become more and more outlandish as the game progresses. Nothing is more satisfying than lassoing an enemy in, attaching a explosive flail to his body, kicking him at his friends and detonating the explosive in a gory rain of body parts and blood.Or kicking people and impaling them on giant cacti . . . or or or, there's just a metric ass-ton of stuff.

One might by reading the review thus far that the game is so focused on outrageous game play that it ignores the story. Fortunately the writes at People Can Fly did not ignore the importance of character development and characterization. Grayson, along with the rest of the crew all have unique and original personalities. Furthermore, the dialogue is hilarious, there are many moments when the character conversations are laugh out loud. Overall, the combination of great characters with great dialogue as well as a fun and over0the-top story provides a really fun and enjoyable experience.

Despite the glowing praise that I have been spewing out of my fingertips, this game is far from perfect. For one the single-player is a bit to linear, even though the world is so gorgeous and unique, the game has a way that makes it impossible to explore. Its kind of heart wrentching when you see all these gorgeous backgrounds and sky scrapers but you cant go any way but forward due to the lack of free roaming. Another thing to mention is that the game CAN be played as a straight up shooter, but in order to really experience the game. you have to be willing to try out combos and test the environment. Often times things will surprise you. IF you don't I can easily see this game getting really boring, really fast.

Conclusively, this game is a breath of fresh air from the never ending onslaught of gritty realistic first person shooters that big name companies keep spewing out of their corporate anuses. Despite minor flaws in design of the game, Bulletorm provides a great game-play experience, with a solid multiplayer and arcade mode to add to its replay-ability. I whole-heartily recommend buying this game at full price! After beating just the campaign I already feel my 60 dollars was worth it, the Multiplayer add on is the cherry on top of the figurative sundae . . . of bloody alien body parts skewered together on a giant cactus!

Final Rating: Full Price

Good review of a fun first person shooter my good man. Bulletstorm is a must buy for fans of shooters and looking for something that knows what it wants to be and has creativity unlike certain games that will remain anonymous for the sake of hopefully being sponsored by the gaming publisher.

Lol...didn't notice that you had put up this review up about 2 hours ago and I just put up mine. I paid full price for the game...hell I was there for the midnight launch. I really enjoyed the hell out of it...but I wound up giving it a rental because I felt that after playing through the campaign on hard and playing around with the echoes and some of the multiplayer that there really wasn't a whole lot of replay value. What I really wanted to see was Epic and People Can Fly make a pvp multiplayer mode that was every bit as creative as the rest of this game but they decided not too for some reason that just might always remain a mystery to me...
